Yes, Gozu, we're well and truly seeing the result of John Howard stacking the ABC Board with his political appointees.

I'd thought that argument had occurred only in the Federal arena.. :?
Perhaps I wasn't paying close enough attention to the South Australian Political Landscape.

Where are the facts? From Foley's mouth ??? The media??

Anyone thought of interviewing the other guys in the toilet (where ever they might be) ??

There are many unanswered questions. I never said he was guilty either.

Interesting to look back on this now......

I am guessing the facts were wrong..... ;)

KEVIN Foley has rejected claims made in court that he accosted two women shortly before he was king hit at a city nightspot in November.

The former Deputy Premier has told a media conference at Parliament House and the House of Representatives that he looks forward to his day in court, describing the claims as "totally untrue".

Mr Foley said he immediately sought legal advice this morning following comments by lawyers acting for his accused assailant, Ante Tony Grgich, that suggested he had forced himself onto two young women in a Waymouth Street night spot, the Marble Bar.

Mr Foley described the claims, made in the Adelaide Magistrates Court by defence lawyers for Mr Grgich as "totally untrue".

"The accusation (that he accosted two women) is totally untrue and I look forward to my day in court to tell the truth about what happened that night," Mr Foley said.

"I totally reject the account given. It is completely untrue."

Mr Foley said he had decided to publicly reject the assertions while the case was still in its preliminary stages because his character had been "unnecessarily attacked".

"This is about my character and my standing in the community," he said.

Noticed these 3 articles on Adeladie Now tonight:

Just another day in the life of South Australians while our Premier and his Deputy are both on holiday

1. Kevin Foley's sudden absence sparks questions about his future
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/foleys-le ... 6064723490
"His leave caused the cancellation of meetings and a juggling of responsibilities.
He has taken leave for the week, finishing up last Wednesday, in a decision that caught some people by surprise, including those with scheduled meetings that have since been postponed.
It also has caused a cascade effect in ministerial responsibilities, with Premier Mike Rann also away.
It is believed Mr Foley is spending the time off locally with his family, before Parliament resumes.
Mr Rann returns to work on June 5 while Mr Foley returns on June 6.

Parliament resumes on June 7, with Treasurer Jack Snelling due to deliver his first budget on June 9."

2. Paramedics locked out of Flinders emergency due to over crowding
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/paramedic ... 6064793301

"PARAMEDICS are being barred from Flinders emergency, with patients forced to wait up to three hours in ambulances.
Tensions between hospital staff and paramedics boiled over during the week - leading to confrontations - with a $163 million rebuild of the FMC leaving the emergency department without 22 beds.
The Ambulance Employees' Association (AEA) says crews are being "locked out" because the hospital does not have strategies to move patients quickly from the emergency department to other hospital beds."

3. Police outrage as attempted murder charges dropped
http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/police-ou ... 6064766021

"POLICE are outraged over the dropping of attempted murder charges against a gunman who shot and severely injured two officers after luring them to his house.

The charges were downgraded to less serious charges after a guilty plea by the man on Monday, severely distressing the patrolmen who still carry injuries and scars after they were ambushed by the gunman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons. ....
The downgrading of the charges has caused angst among experienced detectives and prosecution branch officers involved in the investigation, who believed there was enough evidence to pursue the man on the more serious charges.

It has angered both the police union and rank-and-file officers."

"Atkinson v Archer":

THEY don’t get on, Graham Archer and former Attorney-General Michael Atkinson.

Most definitely not.

Atkinson accuses Archer, the Channel 7 Today Tonight producer, of muzzling him to suit a lopsided news agenda; and Archer says he long ago wrote-off Atkinson as a failure in the role of SA’s first law officer.

Either way, Atkinson says he never gets airtime on Today Tonight and Archer says he’s beyond caring.

Their stand-off goes way beyond superficial annoyance. It’s downright toxic, almost a ferocious blood sport that gets played out spectacularly in public once in a while.

On 2 April 2008 – Attorney-General Michael Atkinson versus Graham Archer, Today Tonight producer – Except of media conference:

Archer: On the Mullighan inquiry you sneered at my program and me personally.

Atkinson: No, I didn’t sneer, in fact that’s another of your lies Mr Archer. I didn’t sneer …

Archer: You did …

Atkinson: I was commenting – can I answer the question?

Archer: No, let me ask the question.

Atkinson: Could I answer the question Mr Archer? You are so dishonest and so unprofessional.

Archer: I have not asked the question so how do you know?

Atkinson: Because I know what it’s going to be.

Archer: Well no you don’t. That is unprofessional.

Atkinson: Because what you’ve done is you have said that I answered one particular question when in fact that wasn’t the question at all. What you do is you –

Archer: What rubbish. What rubbish.

Atkinson: … is you misalign questions with answers to obtain what you want.

Archer: … you were on the radio …

Atkinson: Yes, well 5AA I was discussing a Royal Commission. The proposal was your proposal that the allegations from Wards of the State ought to be before a Royal Commission –

Archer: A Commission of Inquiry

Atkinson: – that they ought to be able to make those allegations in public before television cameras –

Archer: No, I didn’t say any of that.

Atkinson: before television cameras under privilege –

Archer: What nonsense.

Atkinson: So that in particular you could broadcast without liability Wendy Utting’s allegations.

Archer: Oh, shut up.

Atkinson: Now – oh shut up, is that professional?

Archer: Well no but you’re just talking rubbish and you know you are.

Atkinson: Is that professional? So my answer was what, what my response was to a Royal Commission and you know I was opposed to a Royal Commission then and I was opposed to a Royal Commission now. But I was a member of Cabinet that brought in the Mullighan Commission. We achieved it against you. We achieved it.

Archer: … it was forced on you.

Atkinson: Not by you.

Archer: By public demand – but you scoffed at the idea.

Atkinson: No, I didn’t scoff at it and it’s just part of your deliberate campaign of misrepresentation. You are not bound by the journalistic code of ethics and you behave accordingly.

Archer: Well, what about the rules of parliament? What about misleading the parliament?

Atkinson: Yes, well I haven’t done that.

Archer: You are famous for it and I can give you, if you like, I can give you –

Atkinson: Very few journalists threaten politicians with solicitors’ letters. That’s how courageous you are Mr Archer. That’s how courageous you are.

Archer: … not so many as I’ve got from you and you get the Government to pay for yours.

Atkinson: No. That’s a lie. Complete lie. Another lie from Mr Archer.

Archer: … that’s right, Mr Kourakis used to do it for you for nothing.

Atkinson: The Government hasn’t paid for any of my –

Archer: Mr Kourakis did do it for nothing, didn’t he? He did do it for nothing.

Atkinson: Any questions from legitimate journalists as distinct from propagandists and Pilgerisers.

When interviewed on "Enough Rope" some years back, Mike Willesee summed it up beautifully when asked about today's current affairs shows, compared to his era:

"To be honest, I don't watch them unless one of the promotions catches my eye and I think, "I want to watch that story," because they've become much more magazine, which is not my sort of journalism. I don't want to be a critic of them, they must know what they're doing. They have the ratings, they know who their audience is and they're meeting that audience, but in a very different way and in a way that doesn't really interest me."
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
