i agree that we should have a game on good friday. you can sepnd all day with your family and then get the chance to head to the footy, play it adel oval maybe with the teams that finished 3rd and 4th. Barto, didnt the wafl play a game on good friday last year? if they did what was the crowd numbers?

No, this is the first year. Bounce down is at 4:15PM.

Just to compare what happens elsewhere in the world - there are Good Friday soccer games scheduled in England, Spain, Italy, France, The Netherlands, Turkey, Wales, the United States, Argentina, Mexico and Japan today.

There's several full-on Christian countries amongst that lot and they don't seem to have a problem playing sport on Good Friday...

My brother has gone over to sydney to watch rugby today. Manly v penrith at brookvale, just spoke to him and their is a decent crowd building and yes the bar there is doing a roaring trade. He is just about to crack into a pint and hamburger now that sounds like heaven. SA THE NANNY STATE

For crying out loud it's about time we played some aussie rules footy on Good Friday. I know this is an old argument which splits many people's opinion. The NRL play on Good Friday, surely it's time for our great game to be played too. It's an ideal chance for the SANFL to lead the way, they had an opportunity this season but instead we get 2 games on Thur night, what's the point in this. Night footy should be done stand alone. C'mon it's time for Good Friday footy.

Could there be a Good Friday Carnival day held at Adelaide Oval, based on the fact Central play Norwood on Anzac Day could we have had

eg, 12:00- Sturt vs Port
3:00- North vs Glenelg
6:30- West vs South

If you are going to play football on Good Friday, keep it to the evening. The sacred time is actually 3:00pm when the death of Jesus is commemorated.
However, as stated earlier, the reason for not having a match on this day may be more to do with cost than religious observance.

Re the comment about Christmas being more sacred than Good Friday, for believers today is the day that Jesus died on the cross for us, a far more sacred act than his birth.
