Good Friday Football

Postby whufc » Fri Apr 22, 2011 12:10 pm

I know this one comes up every year BUT should the SANFL be playing a Friday Night Good Friday game, could turn it into an ANZAC Day type clash in the AFL and have Norwood vs Port when neither are playing on ANZAC day.

Good Friday isnt as taboo as it once was, i was at the Bridgeway hotel smashing pints until 3am in the morning today, that was unheard of a few years back, why not football on Good Friday.

A game on Good Friday is long overdue. It would be a huge success. Time for us to get into the 21st century on things like this.

I'm off to a BBQ this afternoon. One couple there are extremely catholic, so will only be eating fish and drinking white wine. :? Hope their food doesn't get tainted by my steak and snags.

I'm sure they would happy for you to eat meat while you go to work today.

In all seriousness though, I reckon what holds up footy on Good Friday are liquor licensing and penalty rates. Nothing to do with pandering to the 'minority' as jim says. You would need a packed Adelaide Oval to even make it worthwhile financially, which wont happen in the SANFL, especially on an Easter weekend where many head to the country.
Perhaps if the government treat it as a normal public holiday then it could happen, bit that wont happen any time soon.

I'd happily go to work today. Could sleep all day. I'd still make the BBQ too.

I don't know what all the fuss is about ... I look forward to this day every year.

There's nothing open, you can't drink or have a BBQ, and there's nothing to do other than watching a plethora of Charlton Heston movies to keep you entertained.

What more could you ask for?

Yes, apparently I'm going to a fictitious place of fire in the middle of the earth. I'll have to remember to pack my swimmers.

I'm sure we can all survive without footy and tv for one day.

I've been at home this morning singing row row row your boat with my son. With the TV off :)
