K.Cornes playing for WWT Reserves

Postby eaglehaslanded » Fri Apr 22, 2011 11:36 am

I thought this was a strange one when I heard about this. I always thought a returning AFL who can't play because of their SANFL club having a bye had to play for the lowest ranked reserves side. This clearly isn't the case as the Eagles are 3rd in the reserves. Has the ruling recently changed.

Thoughts anyone ?

I wondered the same thing but the explanation was in the paper yesterday..
It's because Port wanted him to not play last night (for South??) incase they had an injury at training today as he has been listed as an emergency.
Trust the process.

The same thing happened with Jared Petrenko who played for Norwood reserves rather than Sturt who were below us on the ladder.

Based on the logic of the Power not wanting him to play at night that would also rule out Sturt and Port who were next in line. But shouldn't he then play for Norwood 2's as there the next in line.

That would mean playing Monday, which would mean he would probably wouldn't play for the power the next week due to lack of recovery time. Strange he is not playing for North though.

I'm guessing North said he can play for the Eagles.

Point taken about preperation time, that does make sense. But then North are next in line. Ooohhh well he will play with us instead that's cool. Maybe Micky G could have a chat to him while he's there and work a switch from the Bays to the Eags on a more permanant basis. ;) ;) ;)

Port Power can suck my big hairy one :finga:

Rest...yeah rest....

Should've played him last week, then given him a week off this one.

he got dropped 2 weeks ago because he is supposedly 'out of form', so how does he get 'into form' by not playing last week ?..........i heard that he didn't play last night for south as he had a prior engagement as he presumed he'd be playing for port & the parties have agreed for him to play for wwt on saturday, he'll be professional & maybe give guidance to some of the wwt's younger players some who might even have kane's poster on their wall :D

Obviously trying to fit a round peg in a square hole ... Port would want him to play on Saturday, so it's either Eagles or North and they had to pick one.

On the subject of Kane not playing for the Bays last week, who really gives a huck? ... While he's Glenelg born and bred, hasn't played for the club for 8 or so years and is now paid by Port, so they can do what they want with him.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

perhaps you better give a 'huck' dedja because if my mail is right, we'll be seeing kane a lot more in the coming weeks barring injuries at port ;)

still don't care ... if the Bays need to rely on Kane then they're already phucked ...

that part is correct, no club can rely on another competitions players anyway, for a variety of reasons including not even know you'll have them etc

I can't see anyone mentioning the Bays relying on Kane.

I'd just like to see jnr Cornes run around in the Black n Gold again.....

Cornes will be running around with the bays for a while by the sounds of it. Radio interview with dean laidley said cornes and pearce have to start playing for team and not themselves, they will only get back in when they start doing the team thing. Pretty blunt i thought, cant see cornes back with the pah for ages

They must have changed the rules if that is the case.

I can understand him not playing Thursday as he was still an AFL emergency for this week and also not on Monday if they want to give him maximum time to recover if he is to play AFL next week, but he should be playing for North instead of WWT according to the rule of previous years.

Maybe he has a hatred for North and refused to play for them given their rivalry with Glenelg when he was a kid and his father was coach.

He seems to be getting special consideration in any event, especially since they could have let him play last week for Glenelg and normally you can only play for a reserves team if you are recovering from injury, not lack of form. Oh well, we'll take him for this week.

Here at Prospect Oval now, Kane is playing in jumper number 17 and is playing through the midfield...

From my count so far, he has had about 10 disposals and although looking 'different' in an Eagles jumper, he has gone alright...

Has ran back into defence when needed to help out but more often than not, he is looking for that AFL style of short chipping backwards...

Other than that, he had a pretty good first term under the watchful eye of Studley Snr and a couple of Power officials...
