I like the champion Data acronym for South -- "SAD" -- very apt.

I don't envy Ron Fuller. I didn't notice any improvement.

So you're assuming Norwood will play like South then?

Although We won by 13 goals, South still kicked 13 goals themselves, not a bad effort, considering the way Central seemed to dominate.

I thought we had lapses at times that gave South easy goals. We won't be able to do that against Norwood if we want to win.

Normal service resumed!

Good to get the first win on the board.

I thought Boyd was really good and set the tone early with a couple of goals he thoroughly enjoyed which had the guys 'up and about' after that it was pure dominance with Thomas, Sansbury and O'Hara doing as they pleased.

Genuine Positives to me was the way the players coming into side performed straight way, also Sutherland going forward and kicking a couple of goals, if he does struggle in the ruck a bit at least this is a way he can still be in the game.

Lairdy probably wouldnt be overly impressed with how many goals South kicked but thats something to work on.

Also dont know what to make of Matty Westoff, looked disinterested, soft and amaturish in the first half but then finished the game with a very acceptable 4 goals as well as applying some great forward pressure, really dont know where he is at at the moment

Sojourner wrote:Massively disappointing effort from us today. Its a great to talk about five year plans and so on, yet the result clearly is many more performances like today over that time. It truly is beyond belief to me that we cant put together a side that can win a match against one of the top sides of the SANFL with all the resources that we have at the club. To have not participated in a Grand FInal since 1979 is just pathetic and to see year after year of shitty performances against top sides goes way beyond the pale.

As for Centrral they were a class above, clearly they will only get better as the season progresses - as per usual. They seem to be able to recruit and train players to be champion players at this level when they lose them, god help the rest of the SANFL if players like Callinan and so pn were available to play for them.

Just on players coming back, you will be pleased to know that Obst will be back in 2 weeks, courtesy of 2 Titanium plates in his jaw & O'Sullivan is about 3 weeks away.

So it only matters to you what a guy "looks" like and not what he's actually doing? Have you never wondered why the Westhoffs just seem to keep finding the ball? It's based on work, despite the guy looking like he isn't working.

Westhoff was good all game. Kicked 4, set several more up by getting into as many contests as he could (would have competed for the ball more than any other big on the ground). I'm not going to say he's never struggled to find the ball, but some dogs supporters have this Westhoff reflex where every time they get the ball it's assumed they're going to mess it up and each touch is just dumb luck. Neither the dogs nor the power would have persisted with a guy who was soft, disinterested and amateurish as often as blokes around say they are.

For as good a game as he had, the praise you give smacks of someone who has already decided he's going to fail long term rather than someone simply admitting they wre wrong.

I think you might want to watch the first quarter again mate, he had 1 possesion which was a free kick from a deliberate out of bounds which he put through for a point when he had a couple of options lining up in the center, missed 3-4 tackles in the first quarter as well, and didnt get to about 3 marking contests which he easily should have made. I tend to think Laird agreed with me as well by the fact he spent over half the second quarter on the bench, so to say he was good all game is a massive overstatement.

Like i said i thought he played well in the second half, that kind of performace on a weekly basis keeps him in the side for sure, and his chase in the 3rd quarter which resulted in a direct turnover and goal to us was probably the best thing i have ever seen him do.

A forward having a shot within distance of goal. How selfish.

im a big fan of forwards having a shot when in distance, BUT on this occasion he was tucked up in the north western pocket and had 2 blokes open inside 10 meters on a much better angle, i know as fact players having shot from those deep pockets doesnt impress Lairdy very much at all, and could have been part of the reason he spent a large portion of the 2nd quarter on the bench.

maybe at North being selfish is accepted but obviously its working real well there!

I actually dont mind Matty Westoff and i hope he becomes a very good SANFL footballer geez we can do with all the tall forwards we can get, based on his first half he will be the player to make way for Obst when he comes back, based on his second half he holds his spot in the team all year.

He was tucked tight up against the boundary line and no stage did he do the 'team' thing and look in board to centre it.

Was always going to have the shot on goal is more the point being made I think. For what it's worth, I thought after quarter time Matty Westhoff was reasonably good.

Got better as the game progressed, but does still have some flaws in his game if he wants to progress back onto the senior AFL list.
