Sounds like a terrific win to Sturt.

Were the Eagles that bad?

Quite possibly the worst SANFL League game I have watched. Both sides made countless skill errors but Sturt's back line were able to scramble and protect the scoreboard where the Eagles were not able.

Posted by me a couple of days back:

If Luke Thompson plays, Eagles, if he doesn't Sturt by 100 points.

I was close. ;)

Sturt is the first team to break the 400-disposal barrier this season.

What a great turn around from last week, hard at the ball and contests right from the start. We lost Kurtze in the 2nd quarter? which left Wundke to do most of it helped out by Duldig and Johncock. If Aiden Reilly doesn't get elevated by the Crows this year there's something wrong, he was sensational tonight and I thought our best from last weeks debarkle. Chad Wingard was fantastic, reads the ball well and his second and third efforts are impressive as is his disposal.
The Weagles were terrible, showed a bit in the 2nd when I thought they might get on top but their defensive kickouts were a disgrace. Fumbling, dropping marks and general turnovers, stupid mistakes. With their big forwards and Kurtze going down I'm stuffed if I know how they didn't use it to their advantage.
Sturts pressure around the ball was really good, very happy, great result and gies some way to getting a respectable season on track and some sort of payback for last years final. =D>

Saw the quarter time score on the board at Norwood and thought the attendant had the scores backwards. Staring at a pulsating green light can do that to a guy...

I reckon some people are taking a bit away from Sturt here . Sturt were great and their pressure just rattled Eagles . The tackling from Sturt was first class and the ball movement was very very good. Not sure what game Heater was watching but overall Sturts skills were terrific.

Some worrying signs for the Eagles and one is Cicollella , often caught . Looked to e like times up or him.Speaking of time up , Richard Williams . Enough said and its time holding the ball rule was changed at our level if possible. Too many obvious holding the balls not paid and the umpire is watching yet they pluck one from a pack ? A Sturt player got tackled , had plenty of time to get it off was tackled for a decent amount of time attempted to kick it and missed and was called play on. ? Ray Charles could have seen it ! Clearly holding the ball and that happnned to both sides all night.

The game should have been all over at quarter time as Sturt missed some easy ones kickinng 6 points in a row.

Just a side note , 3 cheers for Craig Parry for gutlessly putting down young Wingard off the ball . Pretty cowardly effort and I am sure he wishes he had his time again.

Strange season so far but shaping to be an even one.

South should have beaten WWT in round 1. South won 3/4 of the game.

WWT did not really impress me with all the "hype" pre-season hence why I tipped Sturt tonight.

I really might be wrong with calling WWT for the premiership in 2011. I think others will too.
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Agreed he was caught on quite a few occasions tonight however from what I saw he was one of only a few players trying to get something moving out there. Too often there were no options and Cicca tried to do it all himself. He was caught a few times but it had more to do with nobody else helping than his movement.

Worrying signs tonight but maybe the kick in the pants we need.

It felt like 4 quarters of clangers watching the Eags tonight.

Wow. What a competition! Centrals holding up the ladder after getting smashed by a non-finals team from last year, Glenelg looking ordinary for most of the first 2 rounds, Norwood down on personnel from 2010 and now having a pretty emphatic loss, Sturt not even fancied to make the 5 and starting dreadfully... the Eagles had just about jockeyed themselves to flag favouritism by a process of elimination. And then this.

Who could you make a credible case are favoured to make the GF? Only undefeated side is West, and it'd be a stretch to make a case for them just yet. On form, perhaps Glenelg is as good as it gets... but we know what they're like in September.

Maybe when you don't know what to believe, go with history. Bottom side = favourites for the flag!
