Here's one that may also require censorship. Two Wells offered Jordan Dodman $750 a game and apparently a BLGFL club offered him $1000. He's stuck with BMW because they are paying him less but he only has to train less. My tip by the end of the season if he doesn't get his car out of McDonalds drive through he will weigh a tonne. Food for thought.

straight talker wrote:any one have any idea or thoughts on the most ordinary coach in country footy?? David Bickley, Adrian Duck Davies, Lyndon Prior, Stephen Magor, Brian Butchy Smith, Damian Mellow, Roger Harris??

You're livening things up now!!! I am all for robust discussion on these blogs boys and straight talker you have chosen your name well but nearly all of these coaches from my limited knowledge have taken teams to that last day in September, (not having a go but not sure on the 1st one or the last). May not have won any (not 100% on that either!) but still a fair feat. Anyone thats says its better to not have got there than lost a GF is kidding themselves, you cant win them if you're not in them and all players/coaches want to part of the BIG show!!! A true test.
Three of these are still going this year in some form of the SGL and you must admire those willing to put their hand up or in this case their head on the chopping block for all to have a crack. There's always someone with an axe to grind which is why its hats off to 7dog for his honest and frank disclosures, whilst never having a go at anyone, its good for footy.
Interested in others thoughts on this.
I may be wrong but I'm guessing you live in the shadow of the stack & I reckon probably a cats follower (maybe a disgruntled one?), so perhaps you would care to put your coaching cv up for all to critique here ST.......................
Its all good fun boys thats why we love talking about footy!

nah m8 not a solly man but some of my friends are, if anything i probably support the brooky roosters more than anything. This may suprise you but i am actually a risdon man but no way in the world would i follow them as the way that club works with throwing $$ at everyone and anyone is just ordinary. They have had the best colts side for years and yet they go and get recycled crocs from other clubs and wonder why they have under achieved. Adrian duck Davies has taken them as far as he can he has been there long enuf i think, and Brian Butchy Smith has been everywhere and done nothing at everry club he has been too you check his coaching record out. It is PATHETIC. they have better people within there own club.

Come on ST be up front, a crystal creeker? You just put this on the NAFA blog today!
"nah i dont really get into northern areas footy mate. so i guess he is playing for southern minders then?"
Lions have had the best juniors for the past 4 or 5 years so that would make their 'kids' 21/22/23 so yes it is time for them to stand up and I know they would be disappointed with their finish last year but played some good footy before that. Missed 2nd spot by half a game and lost to Centrals by a point in 1st semi, so closer than West or South when its boiled down. I have always thought Duck is a very good motivational coach but some have been critical of other aspects, its hard to have the lot! He wasnt fighting anyone for the job when he took it and you say they have better there within the club but from what i heard only two applied this year- Duck & Butch, so where were they?
You say they should be able to take it for the $$ they get. How much would an sgl coach get, not that much I would say (any guesses?) & I would say that Lions arent in a position to throw too much about for players.
Duck took Sollies to a GF & Butch coached a Reserves flag for Sollies and runner up with BS Cats in NE as I understand and has some fans. What are your thoughts on the other SGL Coaches in comparison?
Keen for your thoughts.

sorry m8 what i mean is i dont get out and watch the brookies a lot but they are the club i follow as they are a good bunch of blokes with good youth and good coaches thru all of there grades! Yep duck has done a good job but i think he has got the best out of the bunch that he has had for 5 years. well butchy won a reserves flag for sollies WOW mark hunt won 2 and fat cat could of coached them sides and won. I think if you go over smiths coaching record it is very very ordinary. I think Matt Ganley from ports did a good job with the side he inherited and they were certainly no easybeats towards the end of last season and will be big improvers this year. Ray Hayes is certainly a very good coach his record speaks for itself. Bob Boston is the same have a close look at his record it is incredible, thats why it was so easy for sollies to give him the job as only B.Smith was the other applicant. Not sure on souths or westies coaches. Used to love K.Mcsporren and P.Hynes. :) id say certain coaches in the sgl would be on 10k. i know of one that was certainly on that some years ago at ports!!

Did that new bloke Partington play?
Have heard a whisper that a Whyalla club is chasing one of its former stars who now plays for Central and if he goes he may be taking a few of his teacher mates with him.

Wasn't in attendance sorry Draughthorse, had to work but by all reports everything went pretty smoothly. Ray loving a few of Hully's cousins who came out to play.

Partington should have read Parrington my mistake

And Callary will be in the black and red this year, except probably in the back pocket with Quigley, Boles and the like running through the middle....

How is your pre-season going Threestars? did you play in the 20/20 games in Quorn?

Back page news in the Recorder: Craig Tee has put in a clearance to the Lions, but still contracted to Sollies for 2011 season.

Do you think it will happen?

Tee would arguably be the best Ruckman in SGL history & depending on how you look at it could easily be regarded in the top 5 players in SGL history. Most (if not all) players have a huge amount of respect for Craig and always gave 100% for Sollies week in & week out. The one thing that eludes Craig is a flag & I would assume that he believes either Lions have the best chance in the next few years or he dislikes Port more (or both).

In my opinion there are alot more players, past & present who are far less deserving of the $$ they are paid than what Craig may or may not be on..........Regardless, he would be worth it.

Very easy to sit behind a user name and abuse players & coaches.

It's one thing to speak your mind ST, but you're starting to 'shoot from the hip'. After you've typed a post, take a deep breath, and read it back to make sure there's no BS in it before you hit 'submit'.
