Interesting. Jonas gets a week for a midfield clash where no Sturt player remonstrated with him, because there was nothing in it. Good work tribunal.

AH, the Tribunal would have looked at video evidence several times and Jonas had an advocate to present his case in detail.

The tribunal would have had at least one experienced player on it and is also known for leniency (at least understanding the player's position).

I think they were in a better position to judge the case than you, with respect.

From the footage I saw, you can't really complain about Jonas getting a week.

Bit stiff that he got a week for that.
Free kick 50 m penalty was fair enough I thought, but I am biased :)

Why do we have to adopt the AFL system, can't we just leave Football as it was

Before you criticise it, do you know how the points system works?

I don't know how the points system works, but if Jonas gets a week for that its a joke.
There are going to more suspensions thats for sure.

I'm sick of SANFL bending over everytime the VFL tells them to, the game is being destroyed by those morons across the border

can someone put it up here, so we can ALL pass judgement on Jonas' alleged incident? I can assure you of 1 thing though, EVERY Norwood supporter will say what a joke & all opposition (objective) supporters will say he got what he deserved.

What evidence do you have that this is an AFL directive?

What evidence do you have for saying the game here is being destroyed?

I think the "known for leniency" component may well be a thing of the past ... As I posted elsewhere, it was determined at the hearing that contact was inconclusive, so it was left to the umpire who swore he'd seen it clearly.

I know you'll defend the system until the cows come home RaB, but my concern before the season has only heightened now, and that is that for trivial, doubtful or minimal offences, players could miss games because of this points system.

The players are the star attractions of this sport, and I'm going to find it hard to support a system that forces their absence more than I think is necessary, or curtails the physical aspect of our game by having players walking on eggshells on the field.

I'll give it a little longer as it's too early to tell after one incident, but I hope I can return and say it's worked well and my fears never materialized.

Actually, before he went up I thought he was gone because it doesn't look flash on video .. Having gotten a little more information, whilst he throws his arms around a bit I don't believe he's actually struck anyone.

Jonah is a young lad without a mongrel attitude so I guess in this instance it's a case of lesson learned and move on .. By the time he's a 10 year veteran I'm sure it will be long forgotten.

That's right, We love footy, as do the players, because of the unique physicality of it. To start reporting people for stuff that is bordering on trivial will turn people to soccer. Which DVD's get hired time & time again? 80's bumps & brawls. I'm not condoning thuggery but soft stuff should be overlooked. Sure, the umpire can warn the offender that if he does it again, he WILL report him.

CP, the points system is only used if the player is first found guilty, which I think its opponents don't realise.

In the AFL, the guilt and penalty is pre-determined and the player has to either accept the finding, or appeal with the possibility of a further penalty if he loses his appeal.

The SANFL model is totally different, in that the points only come into play after the guilt or otherwise has been established.

Each club's advocate has accepted the points system as being well worth a trial. The points allocation is explained in detail in the explanatory documents given to the clubs. There are 'discounts' for a good record or a guilty plea and loadings for a player with a bad record.

The above is as factual as I can make it, but I'm happy to answer any other questions about the system, if anyone wishes.

PS: West have had 2 players up at Reserves level so far this year. The first was found not guilty, the second got 1 match. In each case, I thought that was a fair result.

No evidence but the old system wasn't that bad was it

Judging by crowds at port & crows games.

As a person who supports Norwood and only have an interest in SANFL leave the game as it was.
The SANFL comp seems to be the healthiest its been for a few years why change things that would make supporters disillusioned

Slightly out there suggestion BUT

should there be a sin bin rule in Aussie Rules for the smaller indescretions that are seeing players be rubbed out for one week. They get sin binned for 5-10 minutes and then are free to play the next week.

thus saving the tribunal for the more clear cut offences.

Just a thought, like others have said we are there to see the best players and it doesnt do anyone good to see soft one game suspensions.

Not in favour. Based on that example, last weekend Alleway would have potentially been sin binned for a report which was later withdrawn.
Players win touches, Teams win matches, Clubs win Premierships.

pels, as you say, no evidence and you also say the game is healthy.

That's what I've said.

Read the facts about the tribunal. It hasn't changed, except for assessing the penalty. If that makes supporters 'disillusioned', then they're very easily disillusioned.

but it still might have warranted having some time out, to cool down. The coach should do that anyway.
