To me, the value of a hardball get compared to a 'run past reception' is much higher.

Any thoughts?

Don't let whufc in on this thread ;)

I have seen every SANFL game Jimmy Allan plays and I couldn't disagree more vehemently. He is the best "gut runner" I have seen in the SANFL, at least since the advent of the Crows. I can't ever remember seeing hin get cheap possessions like you reckon. Without him and Alleway North wouldn't win a game.

Allan has won the Bob Shearman medal as voted on by the 200 club members the last four years in a row. If he was a player that only got free possies, you would think that the 200 club members would be a wake up to him. I think that they would generally know a lot more about the game than most of us posters.

Very good player BUT there are atleast 5 midfielders in the SANFL currently that i would pick before him.

You might pick 5 others, but I'd be happy to have him in my side.

LEH - you said any thoughts? Deleted

WHUFC - name your 5. You should have not taken the bait and stayed out of the "un winnable"!

Like it or lump it but Allan since he joined the SANFL in 2007 has been the biggest possession gatherer in the SANFL in each of his 4 years. He has won 2 MM's - should have won 3 except for some unknown reason the umpires awarded Archard 3 votes in the last round of 2009 that robbed Jimmy that year consigning him to runner up. I think his other season he was third or equal third.

Not bad for a bloke who "skirts" the pack like a seagull "bludging" off his team mates! Using LEH's anology North would be almost unbeatable if Allan can pick up 30+ a week we would be winning most clearences and dominating if we can afford to have him bludge!

I read some absolute rubbish at times on this site (including at times my own odd one or two emotional rants) but LEH has scraped the barrel for rubbish this time!

Ok ill name my five but im not going to get into a full on debate as im sure people are sick to death of us doing this one over. In no particular order, presuming all are fully fit and at their absolute best.

-Paul Thomas
-Nathan Eagleton
-Ty Allen (rate this bloke massively)
-Chad O'Sullivan
-Byron Murphy

All blokes i rate as players who are equally adapt at winning the hard ball or recieving the ball, have penetrationg kicks, are dangerous from limited possesions and have leg speed (allen the exception but is the toughest player in the SANFL by a mile).

imho there midfielders who hurt their oppostion more than any other players.

You did day currently by the way then made a disclaimer about them being fully fit so how does that work??? I would have Robran in my list if he was fully fit - he is not current and neither is O'Sullivan if you want to have bet each way!

All your list very good players but you would have Chad O'Sullivan and Murphy in ahead of Allan? You have to be joking??? O'Sullivan hasn't played for how long and may not ever be the same player again unfortunately but you couldn't even find a spot for Ezard ahead of those two. Geez I would put Matty Wright and Liddle in ahead of Murphy.

Anyhow your entitled to your opinion - surprised you left out your twin Callinan though! LOL

I know Murphy was a bit of a surprise but in the games i have seen him play he has absolutly killed the Dogs on a few occasions, also having the privilidge of being able to be down in the changeroom occasionally before Dogs games i know how highly Lairdy and his support staff rate Murphy. Would be interesting to here how Glenelg fans see him.

Rate Matty Wright extremly highly as well, value for possesions, can kick a goal and is extremly clean in collecting possesion below his kness, isnt the worse in the air either.

I rate Liddle as well but wouldnt pick a red head in my side so his out ;)

FFS READ the post!

The 1st line states what I think of him, I am NOT questioning his ability or his medals!
At no time did I say he was 'bludging' or that he skirts a pack. What was said (& reread it if you have difficulty), is he gets a number of free pozzies NOT ALL are FREE.
I am simply asking a question about STATISTICS.

BTW, just so you know, an analogy is a story that parallels another... How is my post an analogy?

A little angry are you? LOL Interesting I call you a moron and that one word gets deleted by the mods but you can call me a "idiot" "twat" etc. Living up to your name by the looks of it and having seen you once at Woodville Oval I am not suprised. Sticks and stones....!

That's not it at all.

The fact is; if you are going to reply to a post, then you need to READ it first... other wise you are in danger of being called a twat, not to mention that you don't know what an analogy really is.

Do you have anything constructive to point out regarding STATISTICS?

Your inference is that he doesn't get any or hardly hardball "gets" because he simply runs past blokes and is a receiver? What other reaction did you expect from posting such an ill-informed comment and clealry you are tyring to bait to a degree?

As for something constructive regarding stats - didn't you read my post re the fact is that in his 4 years in the SANFL he has been the biggest possession gatherer in the comp each year? That seems constructive enough and to the point and destroys most of your arguement? Where are you stats to back up your belief he gets lots of "free pozies" vs hardball gets if you want to go down the stats path?
