Okay, back on track.
Can anyone come up with a valid reason or possibility as to why a club who is apparently about to fold unless they merge with their AFL counterpart wouldn't have earned extra funds through ground naming rights? I'm puzzled!

Maybe it had something to do with the ground/club being owned by an AFL club?

Thats right yes, I have no idea why, maybe they wanted to see if the magpies would even be around this season before committing to the lights? Not sure.

Cheers mate, disappointing news for the Magpies and I would have thought not the most sensible or popular decision by the council.

So we've got Port Power that are asking for handouts, Port Magpies that need to merge or cease to exist yet neither have worked out that you can sell of home ground naming rights, shit, even sacred of sacred Holy Collingwood have sold this old franger off for good coin! WTF?
I know the mayor of PAEC and he's a good bloke who I would think would back in the PAFC all the way but to say that Alberton will never sell naming rights at the expense of it's two main teams is a joke.
I still don't get it. It doesn't add up. Smacks of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I dunno. Perhaps no-one wants to put their name to it???

Interesting that most clubs only get one or two years from each naming rights sponsor...

HAMRA, House Brothers, BroadRectum... so much lost tradition gone down the toilet. LOL

What do clubs generally get for flogging off the naming rights anyway? $30K ? I have no idea... does anyone know?

Does Playford ( as a LGA ) use taxpayer money to fund the sponsorship?

http://portside-messenger.whereilive.com.au/news/story/light-plan-on-hold/

However, a promise by Mayor Gary Johanson to provide oval lights to help the debt-laden football club cash in on popular SANFL night games will not go ahead until Port-Enfield secures a grant from the State or Federal governments

Port-Enfield CEO Harry Wierda said the council was looking for external sources of funding to help offset the cost of lights, which could be more than $700,000.

He flagged amending the budget during the financial year if the council found a source.

“There’s no reason why lights couldn’t be done in 2011, if funding can be arranged,” he said.

Thanks mate .. Seems to me (on the surface) to be a bit of an insensitive move by the council.
