How rigged is this year?

Talk on the national game

I'd love to see the 2nd Conference then form its own NAFL and exclude the AFL/VFL in Melbourne, making the MCG irrelevant.
We'd finally have the league we should have hung out for in the first place - one not run by Melbourne and the old VFL hierarchy.
Selected Melbourne teams could then be invited to join the real National Australian Football League. ;)

Whereas the Adelaide media always give as much coverage to the Brisbane Lions as they do the Crows :)

Absolutely it was.

My major problem with Collingwood, is not how many times they do or don't travel, its how many games they play at the grand final venue. I'd like to see them banned from playing at the MCG in the last 3 rounds, even if it means they play more games there in the first 4 or so months of the season.

Complaining about Collingwood's fixture is like complaining about the weather. Everyone talks about it, but nodoby does anything about it. The reason Collingwood have the draw they do is because every other Melbourne based AFL club requests matches against Collingwood at the MCG in order to boost their revenue. If we want Collingwood's draw to become less advantageous, then those clubs must stop pleading with the AFL for Collingwood matches .. and this will never happen.

I see your point, and if Port Adelaide hadn't forced the SANFL's hand in 1990, the SANFL would have had a greater bargining power with the AFL. However, even if that happened, any model for a national competition that wasn't weighted in favour of Victoria would have been a failure. From the moment a team was placed in Sydney in 1982, the VFL were always going to control a national league, should it happen.

I appreciate your point. I just think that there doesn't necessarily need to be a reduction in games Collingwood plays at the MCG (ie. they could play more early on), I would just like to see Collingwood scheduled at Etihad and interstate for the last 3 rounds, thereby cancelling the advantage they have by playing so many games at the grand final venue.

I believe you are right. With all the so-called advantages and disadvantages people talk about, invariably we usually see the better two teams play in the Grand Final. Collingwood have had these advantages for years, but only in 2010 were they the better team, and that is what won it for them. And even then, they won it in the replay.

Collingwood have always had it better than any other team, the only thing different about last year was they finally won a Premiership. They have the list to well and truly cash in on their advantage into the future too..

Not so many years ago Vic teams were really struggling, but Collingwood will always get a preferential draw due to crowd numbers at home.Watched AFL360 tonight on Fox and Gerard Whateley said the Crows have got a great draw this year due to playing Port and Gold Coast twice,he stated its an easy way to get 16points.

Just saw that. to add to two games against port and the suns, we also double up against brisbane and west coast. important to point out that they weren't sure whether this is a positive or a negative as it gives you to many easy games and your not really sure where you are at. guess time will tell.

I would rather play the bottom clubs more times and make the finals rather than play Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn twice and miss the finals.

Not so long ago we didn't have a draw fabricated in such a duplicate manner!

This shows the typical lack of understanding of SA football by an outsider (I am assuming Whateley is not a Croweater here so get ready with the egg if I'm wrong). While it is true that Port are creamiest of cream puffs in recent years this is never the case when they play the Adelaide Crows. The Power always lift when they play Adelaide and even if the Crows do win both matches I'd be tipping that neither win would be an easy one.

Just look at last year, Port were up for both games against the Crows and beat us both times. They always find another level against us the bastards.

Yep. I never mark a Showdown in the book. In fact I probably lean the opposite way.
