Rd 1 Port v Norwood Post Game Reviews

All discussions to do with the SANFL

Anyway, to try and restore some sanity to the thread, I was both impresses but disappointed with today's effort from Port. Second and final quarter we had about 70% of possession but could not make it count on the scoreboard. Then we'd have a slight lapse or error and efficient Norwood would capitalise.

Butcher was clearly the standout, at one point he ran 45-50m to tackle a Redleg to the ground and win the free. If the bloke could kick for goal he'd be even better, but his strike for the report was bad and he should probably get some weeks. Harder was awesome as well - one particularly tough incident on the members side of centre in the 3rd quarter was right up there with Port commitment from years back. Young Peter Lindsay had some nice moments, and Gates did well on his return aside from one bad error. Summerton wasn't really in the game, and Ebert was a complete waste of space aside from the excellent checkside goal. Top marks for effort to Clinchy, Lokan and Surjan too.

A shame to lose after such a good toil, but we have to eliminate the errors if we are to win. Norwood's skills were down and they hit the post 5 times.

Well done to Gallagher btw... 200 games in SANFL these days is remarkable.

Especially if you have no neck.

Every club gets it! But I don't want to have anything to do with it. At least you don't get the hybrid jokes, there's something for you. ;)

Mate - I currently have steel plates in my jaw, so I'm re-inforced...

We lost. We deserved to. I can cop that. But don't pollute this board, and this thread in particular with AFL focussed shite. If I want to read that crap I will by an Advertiser.

This site is meant to be an alternative to mainstream AFL-centric reportage. Or at least it was when it started.

mate - good on ya!

my gripe is not with the "sucked-in Magpies" stuff. water off a duck's back. 36 flags, and all that.

was just hoping for some meaningful discussion about today's game. not just some "ha-ha, you lost" type of shit that i'll get from idiots at work who don't even follow the SANFL.

Clearly my expectations are a bit high.

If I was running this site then i'd be shutting this thread down about now and starting a new one when someone actually want to talk about the game that JAS posted the scores from.

btw, if the Power losing is your icing then I hope you have a good dentist.

Sadly, they are. Like yourself I prefer to read comments about the game from people who were actually there, especially if I was unable to get to the game myself. However, just about every match thread gets hijacked by trolls, and that is the way it has been in here for some time.

I guess the trick is to weed through the rubbish and try to ignore it as much as possible. Nothing's going to stop it. "Ha-ha, you lost" is about all some people can contribute to a conversation.

Despite some rusty skills shown by both sides at times, I was pretty impressed by the standard of play from both teams this morning...

Port have some quality, fast youngsters (especially the indigenous lads) while Thurgood proved a handful for Legs defenders and the Power listed Butcher showed some promise kicking 3 in the 3rd quarter (he just can't needs to work on his kicking action ??!!)...

Fitting that James Gallagher, in his 200th, takes the game saving mark on the last line of defence, a good game by the skipper while 18 year old Luke Brown would be pinching himself, kicking the winning goal on debut.

Was impressed also with Suckling from Norwood, Pfieffer won plenty of it and showed he will be good at this level and Sam Rowe showed his worth to the Legs both in ruck and up forward.

Liked the game also of Mitch Banner from the Magpies while Mark Dolling was his usual hard working and hard at player. Well done Norwood.

Apart from one post from JAS with the scores the rest of this thread is just a Port bash, it references the AFL more than the game in question and is infested with trolls.

To think I got banned from this site two years ago for posting pictures of tumbleweeds.

Lift your game safooty.net. I logged in to see if my assessment of Port's efforts were shared by others, but not one mention of the match.

Poor form.

I wont be back.

Pipers is right and most know it. Too many posters that are really non posters . It seems as a new poster myself that it is a bit of a boys club at times .Lets dare not post something against some regular posters or the tribe come running right behind them. Good for some who have a media role but that hardly means your right all the time and we should be able to ost a view without getting "crapped on".

I don't follow Port either but I tell you something , I can't wait for Port to be up there again as then I will enjoy beating them even more and sticking it up 'em.

By the looks of the scores in the second , Port should have won today as they missed many.Maybe the whole Port issue is out of hand as I don't have a problem with their supporters yet have with some others.

We lost the game early in the second quarter in my opinion, we dominated early and only put it in the wrong column on the scoreboard. For me Butcher and Lokan absolutely dominated. Hopefully this is break out game for Butcher and we can start seeing regularly why he is so highly rated. Sadly Port have the same issues we have had for a couple of years. We get the ball about 60-70m from goal and freeze. We chip it sideways and by the time the ball gets into the 50m arc the opposition has numbers back. The times we do get the ball in quickly it is just bombed in and usually to the wrong spot or not to the advantage of our forwards. Another area we still struggle is kicking the ball in from an opposition behind. A few times today we tried to move it quickly and it worked well, but sometime we didnt even try, just jogged to get the ball, jogged back to the goal square, waited more, then kicked it to a pack where we were out numbered.

I still think we are in for a better year this year than last year, just need to be more consistant over the whole 4 quarters.
