It certainly was an interesting game against the sharks once again. Robbie won the toss and we batted as you do in a GF and after being in early trouble at about 3/20 Kingy and Robbie put together a good 50 odd run partnership before kingy was dismissed for a well made 34. Robbie and Benny got together and put on about 50 as well before Ben was out to Chris Winning who had a good game with the ball and finished up with 4/9 as we lost our last 6 wickets for about 14 to be all out for 139. Sampson also bowled well throughout the day and finished with 4/40 odd.

We had 21 overs to bowl on day one and much to our dismay Sampson wasn't coming out to open the batting, it was Winning and Birch. Winning was on his way for bugger all after snicking hoppy to CK at second and it was 1/5. Birch was next to go when he failed to offer a shot to my first ball of the innings and Luders had Bucky strangled down the leg side and they finished off the day at 3/27. The game was well and truly in the balance at this point as despite having 3 wickets down they still had their best bats to come in Sampson and Verrall.

Day 2 saw Steve Campbell bowler number 7 of the innings introduced into the attack and it paid dividends first ball with him getting Loizi caught at first slip by a one handed beauty by CK. 4/27 and Sampson came out to bat.
Robbie dropped sambo on about 15 when the score was about 4/60 and when they had reached 4/80 odd things were starting to look a little shaky for us but you couldn't question our spirit as we had them reeling at 8/92 after Steve Campbell tore their middle/lower order apart with some accurate bowling and was on a hat trick after dismissing Verrall and Miller :D . Tonkesy came out and was very subdued which brought about his downfall as Matt King was finally rewarded for a great bowling effort all day. He then went about knocking Tucky's off stump out the ground to capture the flag for us in what was a rollercoaster day but an awesome one at that.

Good summary mate.

That first wicket of day two was definitely the game changer ;)
Nah in all seriousness, with Robbie dropping samba and them getting to 4/80, we were really worried at that stage. We did realise though, if we got one (especially sambo), we would be back in it.

Robbie who made some great captain moves with bowling changes, 5 times he changed the bowlers and got wickets in the first over.

One of these, he pulled a gamble and got mark into the attack. His first ball to samba was a play and a miss. His second, was a leading edge straight back for a caught and bowled.
The next over, stevey campbell got verrall lbw andthe next ball miller lbw for a golden duck.

Must say, we thought we really had it when young henwood threw his wicket way to Campbell to be caught at mid on. He batted extremely well and that was a big wicket.

What a day and what a season. Being flogged in a couple games this year to premiers

In the Section 2 Grand Final, Belair won the toss and elected to bat. By the first drinks break they were 3/66 and by the 4y tea they were dismissed for 87.
We still knew we had a job to do. Our openers were doing the job for us until we lost both of them within 2 runs of each other. Belair had the tails up and were bowling very well and there catching was awesome. At the 60th over of the day the Umpires made a blue by enforcing the 7 overs which can be taken if there is a possible result and if both captains agree (I wasnt consulted) But in no way am I saying this cost us the game. Like I said Belair Bowled really well and we had 20 bad overs for the year. Still very proud of my boys though!

From what I hear they definitely made a blue by not consulting you bazza. Pretty bad that such an experienced ump in Russ hewett could allow this...

Congratulations on your season mate

you guys were quite happy taking the extra 7 overs when you bowled belair out early , I was standing next to a couple of your lads and the talk was if you get close to their score by end of play you will use the extra overs ?
so you were quite happy to use them for your advantage but now that you lost your not happy with the umpires ?
make your minds up , cant have it all your own way........ belair simply outplayed you on the day.......

Clearly North Haven's circumstances changed, thus thier thinking on the extra 7 overs changed. Which North Haven's captain is well within his rights to do.

The rules state that both Captains should be consulted, both captains weren't. I don't think bazza made mention once to the fact that it swayed the game either way, he just wasn't asked which is the rule.

I don't know if you can say a side that got bowled out for 87 outplayed them for the day. I'd guess they outplayed them for about 2 hours, which was unfortunately for north haven enough to win.

Depends mate. 1) if the keswick motion gets up 2) if port Noarlunga decide to join our comp 3) if they want to go up (don't see why not) 4) north haven still a chance that they want to go up? Undefeated all year and only lost by 20 runs in a GF

they still lost and belair would have to have 1st choice... then nth haven should have the 2nd choice...
this hurts to say but goin on pfcc's form last season and the position on the ladder and especially our last game, they probably should take our spot... personally i feel we should be able to stay in section 1 considering our history and this is our 1st time we have been in this position. but as said already we didnt really put up a good argument stay up...

I wasn't alluding to north haven going up at belayed expense, although I understand how thats how you read it.
My personal opinion is north haven and ports should come into sec 1, if not ports, than belair. I understand belair will get first choice and rightly so. But belair only beat our b grade by 1 wicket and In some of the older statesman (Kingy and pressy), belair are not section 1 quality as of yet. However, I agree that plympton should aslong as WOS be relegated.

Can you refresh my memory Bazza .... Did you guys elect to drop down to section 2 ? If so, and after having dominated all year to just lose the GF, do you think it was a wise decision considering the bottom two section 1 sides could only win 1 game each and you may now be stuck in section 2 for another year ?

Be careful WUB 12 say anything remotely negative about PFCC although being honest in yr assessment and Jabber will have you barred for life :D . Same guy who set the footy and cricket clubs back a decade ! Speaking of which good luck to the Footy club against Rosewater this week ....

Well Done to WYC

I would think they will be playing section 1 next season yes.

How much movement between the grades will depend on whether WOS stay in our comp or not.

I don't think Nth Haven would regret their decision at all. They had lost a couple of players from last year and hadn't recruited anyone when they made their decision to go down.

As it turns out South Road had a very good second half of the year and were more than competitive in most games other than against Cove.

I think it turned out alright in the end.

No doubt Nth Haven would rather be in section 1 but looking at their side their isn't many young guys and getting 40+ players to play 75 overs is easier said than done.

belair won and Bazza said the 7 overs extra didn't change the result of the game, in which they didn't complete is my understanding of it.

The rule was set up to avoid coming back on day 2 it was more the scenario when team a gets bowled out for 100 and team be is 1/90 at the end of the day and both captains agree , not the umpires, that it is best to get it over and done with today.

In this scenario it looks as though the rule was implemented incorrectly but no harm was done.

Yeah pretty sure that was on bloods fb page mate. Cheers for the words.

Ive definitely been lucky where iv come into a successful era at western youth with press, king, knowlesy, woolford, roberts x 2, hopkins, mccormack. Have now played in 5 finals series in a row, so im definitely not complaining :D

Will be interesting to see what happens regarding section 1 next year and promotion/relegated sides. Either way, some people will agree, some will disagree. I think North Haven and Belair both deserve the right to come up now, now do they want to? thats another story
