'Peoples Revolt' Rally

Labor, Liberal, Greens, Democrats? Here's the place to discuss.

Criticising Abbott for 'associating' with them is criticising those he associates with.

My statement is still correct, BP.

She's criticised his judgement in speaking at a rally and most commentators are saying the same.

I think the political reality is that he's been greatly damaged by this.

I'm not so sure that he has been damaged that much... What people saw on the news is a banner saying what it said... and a Prime Minister that was clearly offended by them and having a go at Abbot... He comes off as having poor judgement, she comes off as being precious and easily offended - neither look good out of it.

Yes, I agree that it is a matter of opinion.

IMO there will be a lot of women who won't be impressed by the nature of the signs.

I think Tony's brand is close to being irrevocably damaged after recent events. I really question his ability and judgement after his poor efforts negotiating with the independents, his bizarre long, long silence in that interview and now his speaking at a rally organised by shock-jocks and attended by many who would be regarded as 'extreme'.

You have to ask why he was up on the stage with Sophie Mirabella and Bronwyn Bishop, while Hockey, Turnbull, Hunt, Pyne and many others had the sense to give it a very wide berth.

PS: I noticed one of the signs said "My Mom is cold".

Since when have Australians spelled Mum like that?

A lot of people who live in this country aren't "Australians" redandblack.

Maybe.

Either way, not a fan of a carbon tax, but I thought that sort of rally was something we don't need in Australia. IF Abbott keeps his job over this, he would advised to get some new advisers.

Men or women in the western or outer suburbs won't give a **** about what is written on the signs or who was there, they'll just vote. There seems to be a perception among the left and greens that national opinion is encapsulated in the concerns of moderately well off inner city trendies ( I fit the first two criteria but am not trendy ;) actually a bad tempered intolerant old fart). Someone struggling in Munno Para or similar with a mortgage and trying to fill their cars with petrol, won't care if Tony stood by a nasty sign about Julia. Ideas that this has damaged Abbott is wishful thinking.

mick, I think that's possible, but when it's just another bad image to be added to a lot of bad images, it can be harmful.

It's like people's perception of Tony Abbott on climate change. the latest poll said roughly a third thought he believed in it, a third thought he didn't and a third didn't know what he thought :)

His approval rating is very poor and he's there only as long as the LNP vote holds up.

I said after his bizarre silent interview that he was unelectable and I still believe that.

Time will tell, though.

PS: Peter van Onselen, John Howard's biographer and certainly no Labor sympathiser has an excellent article on this in The Australian, today

When I was in Adelaide last they were selling a house in mum's street as "inner city lifestyle". I laughed my guts up. The inner city tends to open at 6pm not close at 6pm. In reality only Melbourne and Sydney can claim an inner city in Australia, with all due respect the other capitals are kidding themselves.

He's always been a right wing tosser. He's just kept it quiet until the last couple of years.
