POST MORTEM TIME

Postby stampy » Fri Mar 25, 2011 9:23 am

well, as most of us expected we are out of the world cup without a yelp, our bowling was shite most of the time, and our batting not much better, Canada made over 200 against us  as with the test team a clean out is needed. Has ponting saved his arse just in the knick of time?, speculation he is going to pull the pin - on his salary?? i dont think so and i like everyone else who follows australian cricket would love to see him back in full flight but i doubt he still has it in him. Tough decisions need to be made at the top and the first to go has to be hilditch followed by nielsen i reckon. We have a vast array of talent out there which needs to be promoted and nurtured. Cya krejza and tait for starters, who else?

Cant see the point of playing guys if they wont be there in 4 years. Maybe pension the off gradually but there needs to be a cutoff say 2 years out fron wc.

Also a firm believer in having a differant coach and selectors for ODI's. Should be a completely seperate identity to test team. Someone like lehmann would make a fantastic coach

calls for ponting retirement

i think he retires from ODI and focuses on test cricket, give him 12 months-18 months to try and get the magic back.

Haddin - gone get Paine in there.

im guessing if krezja gone then straight swap for smith?

What, you want to replace one non wicket taking spinner with another? The selectors have finally realised he can't bat and thankfully brought in D Huss last night who should have been there all along and did a great job, as a true batsmen.

I know I'm a broken record, but WTF is the love affair....

smith has time to improve, surely cant get worse. Krezja, well you know what you get with him and ya cant teach an old dog new tricks.

or we go without a spinner which can work also

Selectors made a mistake. IMO dropping Krejza and keeping Smith, therefore having Smith at 8, Johnson at 9.

Smith/Krejza, well honsetly not much difference in the spinners there. If our bowlers cant do the job with the ball, we might aswell bat a bit lower and try and make an extra 40 to defend.

Krejza simply did not learn throughout the series. What gets me, why didnt his captain, coach or bowling coach, tell him to bowl alot fuller. He bowled too short the entire world cup

but you can have smith in the side and bat johnson higher, if they want smith in the side

I think its time CA got Warnie away from Hurley and got serious about the spin bowling side in domestic cricket - including krezja and smith and even the part time spinners.

my other issue is Tait - he just donates runs to the other side, if he could manage to control his direction better he would be far more damaging. I mean this WC he has bowled the most wides, if he is going to play he needs to bowl better to support the bowler at the other end. I havent been a huge Lee fan but I think since he focused on the ODI games his bowling has improved.

I said at the start of the World Cup that Lee is our best ODI bowler. Tait is just poo and have always thought that. Really, the bloke just doesnt bowl in partnerships. Not what you want. Mitch, well he is on and off, but if we were to have another bowler to help Lee, Johnson would be able to be more important and a bigger wicket taker. Nannes for Tait would have helped IMO.

i cant wait for cummins, starc and hazelwood to step up, i would even give copeland a shot, as for spinners 4 have been named in the provisional squad to tour zimbabwe, lyon, okeefe, beer and smith, lyon was getting them to rip in the T20s and AB was impressed with him, whats with doherty? deemed good enough to make our 1st test team 4 months ago and all of a sudden on the scrap heap, hilditch and his bunch of merry men need rootin' i'm tellin' ya

okeefe, is surely the most overrated spinner in the country? he seriously does not do much with the ball, and bowls numerous amounts of no balls. just like tait, his back foot is constantly over the side line. This will get found out if he plays international cricket.

I like his all round capabilities, and as a limited overs player, but in the test arena, no thanks!
