Well thanks for another rubbish performance aussies. Time to wield the axe, selectors and coach must go and we must rebuild for next world cup. Anyone who wont be available for next world cup needs to go now so ponting, lee, tait, m hussey and haddin have to go and get some youth in. Its brutal but we must look to future. This world cup was a disaster and an embarassment the selectors got it wrong all tournament, hang your head in shame australia.

Agree Jim. Your point about it being a disaster is true. We have only really beaten the Kiwis in what I'd call a dominant performance. Canada and Kenya, even then I wouldn't say we were able to flex our muscles and put a side away like we should.

The selectors and Cricket Australia will never see this world cup as that though, and that's why we're in the position we're in. They're delusional.

My bank account is now nicely topped up for the start of the footy, thanks Aussies! And thanks India for nailing the coffin firmly shut.

I hope that Ponting becomes the first Aus Captain in many years to retire on his own terms- if he still has that option...

We've lost, he will NOT be a part of the next World Cup, so retire now, on the back of a hundred.

Let people remember THAT score, because we all know it is a blip on the radar now, rather than a return to form.

And while you're at it, retire from Tests.

Agreed MP. I want to remember ponting as a champion and last night was a glimpse of his old self, unfortunately innings like that are getting further apart for him. Retire before you are shafted

We were never going to win the World Cup, we had 4 years to hold auditions for it and we didn't use it. The premier teams have 3 spinners to suit the conditions, sadly, we have none, we did nothing about it for 4 years.

True.
In 4 years time its our time to hold it. CA needs to grow some balls and produce a heap of pitches like the WACA and GABBA. We have a heap of young quicks out there lets batter them. Would like to see the indians playing thunderbolts from cummins and co off their noses.

Exactly. Looking over the squad really who actually thought we would win it? Especially on those decks. We took 3 quicks - 2 that are erratic and hit or miss (Tait & Johnson), no decent spinner and a batting line up that looks suspect at the best of times.

In my opinion i would give the aussies an EE for this world cup - exceeds expectations!

Beating NZ exceeded your expectations? Got done by every other decent side we played and didn't exactly dominate the minnows... Understand your point regarding the side but the expectations of a defending champion should be higher than beating a side whose mind were on other things.

i guess the expectations may have been higher had we gone in with a side suited to the conditions and had started developing a squad for this WC after the last WC.

The real concerning thing was what Canada did to us, that showed the lack of penetration through the bowling side.
