As someone who now lives next door to a league football oval with lights .And yes I am basically next door to city mazda or richmond oval whatever you wish to call it .
If any ovals lights are like westies lights I cant see the residents problem .Westies have had them on regularly the last few weeks .You would have no idea if u didnt look out the front door window etc.

So lets light up the fortress ;)

Those houses on the street behind the outer fence would cop a fair bit of light would they not? Maybe they can build a high fence to block the light out.

Maybe the houses can cash in on the lights by fitting solar panels which could be directed towards the light

No idea HBT .All I know is my bedroom window lounge room window and front door. All face one of the light towers at richmond .Haven't had a problem with them the time we have been here .

lets face it if the houses your talking about can see the light get hit by footballs etc so can my place here .all be it I'm on the other side of the street and creek from the oval . And if they re like richmonds lights shouldnt be a problem IMHO.
And take it from me training takes place nearly every night at richmond.or almost every night I can hear them tonight as I type.

PS
Street light on the other hand shines right in my face all night lol now thats a pain .keeping the blind down :)

If they are anything like Richmond Ovals lights, no resident will complain. Seen brighter street lights.

Speaking of lighting , who has seen Souths lighting? Just not up to sctach either. The standard must not be high in relation to brightness.Every club who has lights , the lights have been quite dull and a couple have improved theirs which is an admission they weren't bright enough.

Everyone keeps saying they are up to "some standard". Well the standard is not good enough.

FFS. More clubs wanting to play night footy. In the end, every club will have lights and get allocated 3 games a year each for an outlay of probably $300k for each new set of lights - ie a year's salary cap. All clubs will then be trying to pinch night attendances from one another. And no one will be much better off in that circumstance because there's not much ability to expand SANFL attendances.

LOL, blame the AFL ... local rag story about the lights at Norwood Oval last year. http://east-torrens-messenger.whereiliv ... -light-up/

REDLEGS fans will have a much brighter view at night matches this season, with the club erecting new $360,000 lights at Norwood Oval.

Four new light towers were installed last week and are nearly twice as bright as the 60-year-old lights they replaced. Norwood CEO Dominic Shepley said the new lights secured night footy for decades to come.

“Night footy is the jewel in our crown and the part of our footy program that we look to protect as best as we can,” he said. “The existing lights were installed in 1951 and were really at the end of their life and this opportunity was something that the club had talked about for many years.”

The project was jointly funded by the club, Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council and the Federal Government.

The strength of the new lights is 550 lux, compared to the old set, which were 340 lux.

The AFL minimum requirement for state league matches is 300 lux, which is the strength of lights West Adelaide erected at Richmond Oval this month.

The thing that worries me about night games is the kid factor. The SANFL has promoted itself as family friendly and its great to bring the kids to the footy but I like many others dont take kids to friday night games, they just finish too late and its harder to keep track of them during the night. I love night footy but as an occasional match not every week.

Thanks dedja. I guess when the AFL set such a low standard, who can blame them for putting up sub standard lights. Although I bet the AFL wouldn't allow a night game to be played in their league under those conditions.

When you compare that the old Norwood lights were just 340 lux (whatever that is!) and they were marginal, you have a fair point.

Genuine question, how long were the Parade lights marginal for? (I didn't go to any night games in the 70's and too young to remember the ones in the 80's)

I was in the middle for the coin toss v the Bays a few years ago (we wont discuss the scoreline lol) and it hit me like a bowling ball just how poor the visibility was (watching the teams kick for goal in warmup) .. Was seriously stunned.
