Junior Member Curtain-raiser debacle.

Evening All,

tonight after work I went to SANFL admin at AAMI, as the promised phone call re my enquiry as to junior members having to pay for the ridiculous curtain-raiser never came.

I spoke to a woman from ticketing who only kept saying that "it's an AFL game and kids have to pay AFL prices", I could tell that she didn't give a toss so I asked for her boss.

Darren Chandler came out and introduced himself. He listened to my complaint and the fact that I don't like being sold out to the AFL to artificially boost Powder's attendances. He told me it was important for Norwood to have Cows and Powder perform well as we received a dividend of $500,000 per year (CRAP!!!). He also said we could pay $2.50 for seats in the outer. I said I don't want to sit with the Powder plebs!!

I mentioned that I had contacted Consumer Affairs and in their opinion the fact that free entry is advertised as part of junior membership is in breach of the false advertising laws. He put the blame for that squarely on the NFC and said there was no benefit in being a junior member. I asked him if the SANFL checks what their clubs are offering in membership packages and he said all they do is give the clubs a "pricing structure".

I said he was selling all loyal SANFL supporters out to the AFL and it will be a failure when a sea of RED and BLUE get up and leave at the end of our victory. Then I walked out. Frustrated but at least I said my bit!!!

At least he listened.

That's the end for me, I'll pay the $60 fpr the kids to sit with us, and let's not forget the $15 for parking. That's only $75 before we even walk in the gate!!

Looks like the beginning of the end, enjoy our comp as I fear the end is near, and these SANFL puppets will sell us all out sooner rather than later!!

At the very least the SANFL could cordon off a bay or 2 for those folks who don't want to see the AFL match, charge them SANFL prices for admission, and close the bay before the second game.

Don't think $500,000 dividend is right. Doesn't that also include money collected from those that don't pay for a club season ticket for SANFL games? Doesn't that money go into a pool, which is split evenly amongst the clubs, and included in the dividend that the SANFL give back?

I'd go back to consumer affairs, or ask the NFC for a few free tickets for the curtain raiser games.

It is all landing back into the NFC's hands to rectify with its members and quickly.

I would also suggest that the Sturt Football club look closely into this mess and resolve it with its members before their turn in the barrel later on in the year.

It is all about the SANFL and its long suffering clubs making the Magpies/Power look good at home matches in the eye of the National TV audience, certainly not about the SANFL club members who are singularly ripped off paying extra to take in the family (in this one case an extra $60.00)

Multiply that by just 1000 kids (not hard to believe) and it adds up to an additional $60,000 for the AFL coffers for us to watch our home and away series

Great post Fester, you're spot on. I know of Norwood supporters who will not go to this game in support of the SANFL comp as opposed to the AFL minipulation of our league and the Norwood Football Club

Simple, nobody should rock up and lets see what happens. I hate the afl more and more each season. Mr AFL you should stick to the afl and leave us in the sanfl to enjoy our footy and let our kids go and see a REAL GAME OF FOOTY

Chandler is right. It's a sad fact of life these days that South Australian football and indeed the SANFL need a strong, vibrant and financially sound AFC and PAFC to prosper.
Ripping off loyal SANFL fans at AFL games however is not the answer.
SANFL clubs need to grow a pair and demand that this fixture debacle is not repeated.
Port are hated enough in this town without forcing loyal SANFL fans to attend their matches by default at inflated prices.
