St Helens Beat Brisbane Broncos

Postby Wedgie » Sat Feb 24, 2007 9:46 am

For the 6th time in 7 years the English Club Champion has knocked off the NRL champion.
Brisbane took this very seriously too, got to England with 10 days to spare and 14 of their premiership side played.
English Rugby League is very strong these days thanks to the Superleague over there, had the opposite effect over there to here but it was done right.

My arguement is that the English Super League season finished more recently
& St. Helens probably have better match fitness, whilst the World Club Challenge is played during the NRL off season!
Still it's always good to see the Broncos lose!
Watch out Brisbane, with the Gold Coast Titans coming into the comp this year!
Unlike previous franchises who've come & gone in Southern Queensland (Seagulls/Chargers & The Crushers)
This side looks the goods, got solid financial backing & a new stadium under construction!
So the Broncos dominance in that part of the World will surely be tested!

GO EELS!!!!

Poor argument mate as their seasons run paralell, England have a summer season, Australia have a winter season.
It might have been an argument in the old days when the poms ran theirs over their winter.

Both comps finals start in September.

I prefer it to NRL, better atmosphere and better games to watch.

I've watched the odd game on FOX Sports out of curiosity,
Back in the old days I used to half-heartedly follow Wigan.
It kinda reminds me of the circus that was Super League here in Oz circa 1997
Being an Adelaide Rams member & season ticket holder at the time...
With all the unnecessary sound effects & music blaring etc.
In my mind takes away the spectacle of the game itself!
Still, from what I have seen...
Great Britain is no longer the retirement zone for aging NRL players like it once was!

Must admit I haven't noticed any music or sound effects, just the great chanting and cheering of English crowds.
I used to even get up at 4am to watch live Leeds games but it doesn't get as good as coverage as it did 5 years ago.
