Australia vs Ireland in the Top End? Why not!

Would CA be interested in hosting a 3 match series in the Top End over the coming winter/dry season? If it helps a promising nation out, I think it should be done, a week and a half should cover the matches easily.

Even Pick an 'A' side and at least give them competitive matches. At my Club we have just farewelled and Irish Cricketer who was here for the summer. Cricket is such a small community in Ireland that he could name most of the supporters contingent that witnessed the victory over England that were shown on television.

An A side would be the better option. Cricket is pretty demanding these days with the fitness regimes they have and the amount of travelling they do. Only have to look at the injuries at the top level to see there is more strain on the body than ever before. An A side would still be far too good for Ireland, but it would give both sides good experience. And will be at least a little more competetive than a match against the full Aussie side.

We should compact the Ryobi Cup like we do the Big Bash and have them play in that, possibly a Kenya, Canada or the Netherlands aswell to make it an 8 team comp. Couldn't do it with the current format as it spans out too long.

of course cricket australia wouldnt be interested - they are far to mighty to waste their time on develping nations

wouldn't make any money for cricket australia. If CA were actually interested in helping to develop international cricket by hosting developing nations, we would have seen bangladesh come here more then once and also wouldn't cancel the test series against them next month in favour of ODI's.

No problem spell_check, I knew what you meant. I was answering those suggesting they play an Australia A team.
Didn't notice you were talking ODI's though. I had an idea the Irish might have been applying to ICC for full Test status, but I may be wrong. However, ODI or Test, whatever it is, if its going to help them at all I believe we should pay them the respect of hitting them with our major side.

I reckon they make a good case for a Test side, probably around par with Bangladesh. I've been impressed by both sides this World Cup. But we both have a common theme, BTP; they need more matches against the top teams!

If it helps an up and coming nation out, yes! We don't need to do it every year, just this year or next year. Then hopefully other countries will follow suit. Plus, those up in Darwin and Cairns get to see some International cricket for the first time in 3 years; and some more telly viewing for the rest of us.

It's like the AFL fixture - games are scheduled to make coin, not to develop other teams or share the love. As long as ICC have these objectives it won't get much better.

At very least 'A' SIDES of the Test playing nations should be playing these minnows on a regular basis imho!
