Blackwood played no-where near full strength tonight, playing a 5-quarter game against Edwardstown. They had about 15 on the bench as the game was a combined A/B Grade game, with many regular players on the sidelines watching too. Also playing were most of the senior colts from last year's squad that have moved up into the seniors and none of them looked out of place amongst the bigger bodies.

Despite missing some stars Blackwood looked good, and I don’t know the score but they would have won easily.

your a clown beetle... Both sides under full strength & the townies won easily in the end... Roughly 6 goals+ if you asked the goal umpires.. Really it was just good to have a hit out for the first time this year & get the cobwebs out.

Beetle perhaps you could give us some insight into WHY Blackwood looked good? How were they moving the ball? Did they display any obvious structure or gameplan? Did they look fit? Tackle well? Etc etc. This info from trial games is much more valuable than recounting how many players were not playing- that just gets boring.

Dm, I was more saying that the youngsters that were playing last night were looking good. All of the colts coming up had plenty of time with the leather. They weren’t panicking under the pressure of the bigger bodies and their disposals were efficient most of the time. All of them looked like they could handle the pressure of senior football. Add the missing stars to the mix and they will be very strong this year……....But I can't really say that they were up-and running though because its there first hit-out of the year, playing no-where near full-strength or a full-strength opposition and they were just getting use to playing football again.

DM - Some feedback from an opposition point of view. Blackwood were very very clean off the ground, hardly fumbled.. Edwardstown put a lot of pressure on the ball carrier which caused them to turn the footy over a lot of the time & we did the same, but I think our pressure & intensity on the ball was much stronger than Blackwood's... Edwardstown in the end had more possesion of the footy but failed to convert in front of goals. Blackwood on the other hand were very accurate in front of goal & moved the ball well when they got space out of the backlines... Other than that Blackwood for this time of the year should be a lot fitter than they are...

Overall not being buyest here but we were fitter which resulted in us running over them in the last 3 qtrs & in 1 qtr the ball only went down into blackwood's forward line a couple of times. We just didn't put it on the scoreboard.

Is the blackwood vs Noarlunga trial game at blackwood next weekend?

I wouldn't say that Blackwood is unfit, they've had one of the toughest pre-season for a few-years. Also Spangy I wouldn’t want to be hitting peak-fitness by round-one, I’d rather be building the fitness up during the season and be peaking around finals time.

And Yes, Blackwood are playing Noarlunga at home next week.

I never said they were unfit. Hitting your peak fitness & building your fitness through season is another whole subject in itself.. It just appeared they didn't have the endurance to go the length of the whole 5 qtrs... Anyway I hope Blackwood have a good year....

thanks Beetle and Spangy for that informative analysis of the game, that gives us whom were not there some valuable insight into how things actually panned out. Despite who wasn't playing I am sure Sleeves got plenty out of watching his young guys go round. You'd hope though that every club would be able to get something close to a full-strength team together for at least one trial game prior to round one- Lofty will definitely pick their best available side for the game against Strath, as they did against hahndorf last night.

Was told that Cooper's back at hahndorf, thought they'd told him not to come back and that he was at Unley. Goes to show how much can change on here in a few months!
