South Australian Cricket Association has today signed Darren Berry as the new coach of the West End Redbacks for the next three years.
Berry, most recently in charge of the Redbacks in their premiership winning KFC Twenty 20 Big Bash campaign, is in Adelaide this week to meet with SACA officials and begin planning for next season.
He was the coach of the championship winning Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural IPL tournament in 2008, and was also specialist coach for the Redbacks during the Airtel Champions League T20 tournament in South Africa in September last year.
SACA director of cricket Jamie Cox said Berry had been selected from a strong list of national and international candidates.
“Based on Darren’s strategic approach to our group during the Big Bash, and his success in getting the most from our playing list, we believe he is the right man for the job,” Cox said.
“He is strong character and a proven educator and leader and we are very confident he can deliver success to South Australian cricket.”
“I have worked with some very talented players here, and I am looking forward to working with them over the next few years to create a culture of success in South Australian cricket,” Berry said.
“This year’s results show there is a bit of work to be done, but I am confident they have it within themselves to be successful.”
