One decent, user friendly stadium will do. An Adelaide Oval redeveloped, along with the stretch between the city and oval would be fantastic. Unfortunately, people let their political beliefs and personal experiences cloud their judgement.

yep, correct!!! Wedgie, from what i read this is you. Question for you Wedgie. why do you actually care if you dont go to any games in this state?
it seems your motivation for this to fail, is highly based on your political preferences?? Or to stir the pot?

Who is this Wedgie you speak of?

You are right - that must be what they need the extra 2 weeks for

I thought it AAMI was still a 30K stadium

Rather than that sort of response what about the other points about what the MCG does are have you picked up a posting style from someone else? Just take out one point and flame it up.

Answer: Because I would love to go to games in this state and know there is no chance in hell of doing that if the Adelaide Oval development goes ahead.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, how the hell could Adelaide Oval cater for 50,000 when in the 40 years I've been going to various events there hey haven't even catered for 2000 well!
Adelaide Oval is a hole, always has been, always will be and without a competitive 2nd oval it will be worse again (if that's possible).

Political preferences are irrelevent and unlike most I vote according to the issues at hand. Would have even voted labor last federal election if Rudd was in charge still but yes obviously voted Liberal last state election for the good of footy and sport in general in this state.

you gotta be kidding, what rubbish!! It will be a new stadium with new facilities. Have you been to the new members stand? A part from the toilet issue (which they will fix) it's great. With correct staffing to complement the new ammenities, it will be world class. Have a look at the plans in detai!
Also, you are sying you will never attend if it goes ahead, this is even more of a joke!!

Why would I have been in the new grandstand?
The place hasn't seen any sport yet, only soccer and cricket!

Might suss it out when the Rugby Sevens are on. Who's got some members tickets I can use? ;)

Im working with facts that AAMI will be a 15k stadium, also a fact is the agreement says footy will have the Oval for 7 months, I just want answers on what this guarantees cricket, which no one can answer, or even try to...

Dutchy, I know you want answers. Why not ring the SACA? About 3 posters have tried to answer your questions with rational responses (it's 5 months and 1 week - only 3 short of 50-50 BTW) but you have ignored them.

Footy goes to 1 Oct and starts again late March. The Shield starts 8 Oct and ends around 21 March. The first AFL game at AO could be up to 1 week later.

That seems to fit depending on how long the pitch takes to drop in and out. If you refer this article it suggest drop in pitches can be used almost instantly.

PS: did you know Lords has a drop in pitch? I didn't.

I have contacted saca and you are correct with those dates. A drop in pitch can apparantly be played on within 3 days of installation so thats fine. What i cant get is a straight answer from the AFL, im led to believe when GWS enters the NAB cup will be scrapped and round 1 will start 2-3 weeks earlier to accomodate 26 rounds. My suggestion would be to play the crows and power away for first couple of rounds and then later on in season have two home games in one weekend ie crows friday night and power saturday. Cant see why both cant play home on same weekend

Correct me if I'm wrong, but apart from the scoreboard and the couple of bits of the old grandstands that were retained; the oldest fixture at Adelaide Oval is the Bradman Stand, built in 1989.

Is Adelaide Oval the easy solution?

AAMI is worth $350m sell that plus the current Govt contribution and you have nearly $1b to build a new stadium, which even the pro AO agree would be the ideal situation

For cricket? Pigs arse! No joint venture on extra events? No joint expense sharing? No Govt. $85m in the bank?

For footy? Pigs arse! No free ride into a city stadium deal? No joint expense sharing?

No 2 city venues, one main sport at each - the competition between the 2 for other major events could only improve the returns on each one

Competition would be good for them? No chance.
