i'd be surprised if there was any basis for this story- first I've heard & I was there.

I know our lads were pretty pleased to get the support from the A grade too. Saw the best thing in cricket. Johnny Norts who is about 50 odd, not playing but was so keen to be 12th man, running (sprinting) out drinks everytime a wicket fell. Awesome stuff, got a standing ovation and some rowdy cheers evertime he ran out.

I know it was touched on a little earlier on the forum but did the teams have to supply the square leg umpire for the finals? If so that's pretty ordinary. For mine should be a neutral observer as it rules out any biased decisions. I know my old comp would make the non performing finals team supply umps for the lower grade finals and those blokes were reimbursed by the clubs playing. I'm sure the clubs participating wouldn't mind handing out some extra $$$$ for an extra umpire. IMO.

Good Luck to PV and the Roys this week. Commiserations to Lutherans and NEK. Should be some good match ups this week, with Loechel v Marshall, Hoddo v Rollings and Pidge v The Hulk. Another big match up is on the Saturday night in a 'Blockbuster' Night trial at Kilburn Oval. Blackfriars OS v Mawson Lakes B grade trial could have my 'Dream Match up' of Cougar V Superbad. I have my 3 worded sledge ready for that Serial pest.

Good luck to all teams on the weekend. It should be a cracker of a Div 1 GF. Yes Cougar all clubs had to supply a square leg umpire in the Semi Finals. But i believe all games this week will have 2 independent umpires.

Def have to have 2 independent umpires. AN ABSOLUTE MUST. In the Semi last year we had all the problems in the world umpiring ourselves (i still laugh at the opposition suggestion i was a cheat for not walking on an LBW), and this year as well proved we need INDEPENDENT umpires at both ends.....you writing this all down exec members?
