AUSTRALIAN captain Ricky Ponting smashed a TV set in the dressing after being run out, media reports say.
The incident happened during the World Cup opener against Zimbabwe.
The reports were dismissed by the Australian team management but they immediately sparked a stream of "ugly Aussies outrage" from Indian cricket fans on websites.
Australian media manager Lachy Patterson denied that Ponting had smashed an LCD television set in a fit of rage.
"Ricky threw his box into his bag and it flew up into a TV set," Patterson said.
"It wasn't smashed. There was a small blackout on one corner of the screen. It was still working when (it was) replaced."
He scoffed at reports that people had been injured by flying glass.
Quoting sources in the Gujarat Cricket Association, the Indian media reports had said that Ponting smashed the TV with his bat in anger after seeing a replay of his dismissal.

But is it too hard for management to come out and say that it was an accident and only minor damage occured? We just look silly when CA deny anything happened and 5 minutes later ponting owns up to it.
Maybe the indian media should be more worried about the pathetic crowds and how poorly run the tournament is. Deflected the blame from them cocking up the saffers anthem
