If you have trial games after this comp, this is a good chance to give the younger ones a bash.

Lofty only 5 or 6 a graders? Try M. Stapleton, D.Stapleton, macdonald, lutges, burch, pistola, weeks, gordon, brown and obrien. throw in cutting and sounds like was taken pretty serious - only big name a grader from last year not to play was sean gold!!

Hahndorf had 3 players in the side who played some A grade games last year the rest were U/17's from last year,
think you will find that will increase slowly over the next few weeks but they do have 2 further trials after this comp so I am prettty sure they wont want there best side playing all those extra matches. Good turn out at echunga considering the weather. The oval was outstanding.

Puss In Boots - ha ha, yeah did sound that way but far from it. I was just going on what i was told. Seeing as a few of us are mates with Madsen and he said he had them at close to full strength, I went with that. To those banging on about Echunga if I'm off the mark, sorry. But the consensus seems to be that Echunga are young, that's besides the point, I heard that they were close to their best squad. Maybe they weren't.
No Respect - fair enough, gotta pick you up on a couple of things though. Lutjes played a fair bit in the B's last year and GOULD hasn't played for...oh, 5 years at Lofty. From guys that were there the feeling was that the 12 or 13 B graders/kids were a bit lost and when the likes of White, Waite, DK, Petersen-Gray, Radbone, Artis, Mirabello and 2 others that apparently came with White are back, things will be different.
I just threw it out there, it's what I was told happened on the night. I'm sure that Echunga are more than handy.

Actually Puss In Boots, I only just noticed that you're an Echunga person so could you clear it up - were you close to full strength? And how's Madsen going out there as coach?

On the 20/20 Hahndorf had 1 regular A grader, barker had an u22 side or something but are still pretty good due to there talented kids, tailem looked as if they had none of there big gun recruits. Dont know much about plympton but they looked fairly young with a few rough types running around. Echunga by the looks had alot of there better players out there. Noticable absentees were liston, edmonds, cranna and that new reynella recruit. All this talk had me curious to see who lofty were missing and from last years prelim M.Artis, K.Artis, peterson-grey,o connor, davies, mirrabello, radbone and stevens plus those recruits crabb, friend????, white, wait, stuart gould, pohl.
So yes a few out but credit has to go to echunga they are a pretty decent side in my opinion.

Must admit JQ that i wasn’t able to make it to the games on Friday night so I am not sure what sort of team we put on the park.

From what I have seen so far Madsen is doing a fine job, he runs a tight training session and he certainly has the team looking fit. He has got some big shoes to fill, MB was a popular coach who was getting great results from the group. But if a 20/20 game in the wet in mid feb is anything to go by... SHOULD BE A GOOD YEAR!

Torrens Valley still struggling to get decent numbers on the track, and when they do it is due to lots of senior colts, who may need to play in the A's anyway due to issues with points. You would have thought they would be getting good numbers by now with the move up. From what I can tell they have lost more than they have gained in terms of quantity, so a few of their B graders from last year will need to step up. And I have heard that they need to pay $8K to Neely's old club for him to be released (probably wont be a problem) which is why the clearence was denied. Be interesting to see if they can pull it together come round 1.

why do they need to pay 8k to get him cleared, surely if he wants to move to Torrens Valley, he should be allowed to go and Onka's shouldn't be able to stop him.

It's not Onkas who want the money, it's Queenbeyan (think that was his club). He must still be under contract there, and he was probably playing there as a semi-professional (like some SANFL players) so the contract may actually have some legality to back it up, unlike his contract with Onkas.

JQ, Dodd only played 1 or 2 seasons before heading back to the EP I think and we lost Rowsell part way though last year to a surfing trip around the US, Although he is apparently returning this season, very handy player if we could slide him back into the mix!
