It should have been done that way I agree, but I can't see it ever brought in now.

I reckon the afl will end up taking over all state comps, like they have in nsw and qld. once thats done they will force mergers and then they can get a strong div 2 comp. As long as demetriou is in charge the sanfl is screwed

WEll, he's been in for a long time now and the SANFL is more popular.

The SANFL is more popular because demetriou has turned people off the AFL. My point is if he stays in power he will eventually take over the sanfl and wafl then he will merge all state comps into the AFL

:D

The only slight flaw in that argument is that the AFL crowds are at record levels and the TV deal coming up might reach a billion dollars.

I'll send you some straws to grab ;)

I don't think they are crash hot in SA ( live crowds).

TV deal will be interesting , not sure they will get the growth they are looking for.

TV revenue/foxtel will now and for ever dictate the path of football.

2nd tier competition will never work , AFL is too Vic centric and WA/SA supporters won't provide sufficient monies to support the concept.

Worse comes to worse.

Sell the licences , sell footy park land, invest in another neutral ground , invest the rest and support the SANFL clubs , metro and country leagues.

AFL will be bailing out Sydney,Brisbane,GWS,Gold Coast for the rest of their existence.

As soon as there in no growth in the NSW/QLD foxtel market, things will start to implode.
If at first you don't succeed , then destroy all evidence that you tried in the first place

Not saying afl revenue isn't healpful. It's justnot as essential as most make out IMHO!

We would find it tough but could survive without afl dividends. But withoutpokie revenue every club would die Within a month.

Interesting comment when you consider the amount of posts you have made over the summer relating to how the SANFL divides up ( or uses ) the monies generated from the two SA-based AFL clubs.

Very interesting indeed.

Oh, how dare they use that money to prop up Port Adelaide....blah blah blah

AFL Crowds are up due to the resurgance of the vic clubs. Anytime Collingwood are doing well the crowds will be good.
Demetriou cooks the books to make the figures look good. He programs uneven draws with plenty of blockbusters in victoria. Im an Essendon member and no matter how crap we are going we will always play collingwood and carlton twice
Think you will find crowds in SA are poor and those people are heading back to the SANFL in droves.

Mate, I'm no fan of Demetriou or the AFL, it's just that I only want to blame them for the things for which they should be blamed. Things like:

Having heads that only face north.

Having failed year 7 geography, thus not realising there are states west and south of Victoria.

Stuffing up the game with ludicrous pre-season rule changes (wouldn’t it be a fun idea to say play on if the ball hits the post and bounces back into play)

Putting their Financial Director in charge of the season’s fixtures draw.

Being seduced by national and international expansion while the grass-roots suffers.

Adelaide Oval (blame or credit to be decided)

Also failing Year 4 spelling: Andrew, spell Australia?..................errr, V I C T O R I A, miss.

On the other hand, I’m not into blaming them for every ill that befalls West Adelaide, or Centrals, or Sturt, or……..

I’m not sure of your evidence that Demetriou ‘cooks the books’, though. Sounds slightly biased to me (I'm reluctant to say it even sounds a bit crazy, so I won’t)

I’m not into conspiracy theories about them doing minor things to eventually take over our comp. If they really want to, be afraid, very afraid - they won’t pussyfoot around. Then again, I don’t think they’d want to be bothered with our comp, we’re just a nuisance to them. I don’t think they’d want a full-time 2nd tier competition with SA clubs in it. Not financially viable and it would over-saturate the market.

Although I have no proof, I do blame Demetriou for the following:

Westies lack of a premiership in recent times.

Central’s dominance.

Psyber

The situation in Chechnya.

Meanwhile, I’ll just keep on supporting the Bloods. Whether they’re playing in the pre-AFL SANFL comp, the current SANFL comp or any future comp.

Have to go, nearly dinnertime. What, nothing in the fridge!!!!

Changed my mind, bloody Demetriou.

Do you have any evidence that Andrew Demetriou is "cooking the books"? Have you shared this with the Police, or the Taxation Office, or the Securities Commission?

Amazing how Demetriou cops it, but all he does is implement what the AFL commission want, anyone would think everything he does is his idea!

As for the FOXtel comp being something the AFL invented, again wrong, FOX came up with the idea...

The evidence is clear to see.
Who sets the farcial unfair draw each year?
Its easy to make the crowd figures look good each year just give collingwood, carlton and essendon heaps of home games and heaps of block busters.
That is what i mean by cooking the books, he rigs the program each season to gain maximum attendances. While the KPI's look good he keeps his job.

Id think the AFL comission would set his goals, would be like any other big business if you reach your targets you get a bonus.
Im just saying its not hard to make crowd statistics look great. Dont have to be a rocket scientist to know that if you give collingwood a heap of games at the mcg and give them heaps of friday night exposure that crowds will be great and tv ratings will be enormous. He takes north melbournes friday night matches away after they spent years doing the groundwork and gives fridays to the big clubs. The draw is a compromised sham and yet he spruiks how good a job he is doing, worst AFL boss for years.

RC, pokies income and SANFL dividends are two separate arguments.

SANFL clubs get a dividend of about $400,000 a year ATM. Port Magpies got through because of an advance payment of this dividend.

Most clubs would not suddenly survive without this dividend.

20 more machines wouldn't do it. 100% more customers might, but that's a separate argument.[/quote]

Never said it was the same.

Just said I know what is more valuable to an SANFL club and it is pokie revenue. Sounds as if your more trying to convince yourself about how no way it could work without the AFL clubs.

R&B you have been banging on for years how 2 healthy AFl clubs is the future for us SANFL clubs and without it we would peril.

YEt again Ill point out to everyone. This year both AFl clubs reported financial losses for the first time ever.

9 SANFL clubs reported a profit.

Can anyone else spot the contradiction ????
