My missus is in the same boat mate. She's struggling to find a decent doctor. They all keep telling her **** she already knows and no matter how many times she explains it to them, they don't listen.

Re bad doctors/diagnosis:

I have one of the worst doctor stories going around I reckon.

Very long story short.

My sister-in-law took my neice to the local doctor when she was about 6 years old - as she had a 'sore' on the top of her head.
The doctor diagnosed it as ecsma - and gave her a cream to put on it.
After about a week the 'sore' was no better, if not anything else - worse.
My sister-in-law took her back to the same doctor.
The doctor gave a different cream still insisting it was ecsma.
Another week later - it had nearly covered the whole of her head.
My sister-in-law took her to a different doctor - who conducted tests etc.
My neice actually had a ring-worm which had been feeding off the ecsma cream and had now imbeded itself in her scalp.

This also meant having to go to the women's and children's hospital for several operations to lift 'scabs' off the top of her head.
She also became a 'case study' as they had only seen this twice before in SA.

This also meant that where the scabs had been removed - so damaged was the top of her head that her hair would never grow their again.
So basically once after, months and months and months of healing - she was basically bald.

So what the women's and children's had to do was put saline bags in the top of her head and inject saline over a period of a year to stretch the skin.
They then had to operate and pull one side of the top of her scalp to the other side and join them together to try to make things look as normal as possible with a part in her hair.

This whole process took about 8 years - meanwhile she lost all her self esteem - got teased at school - and now at the age of 16 is basically a hermit who won't leave home.

What caused this ring worm?
The Women's and Children's narrowed it down to a guinea pig - she had put a guinea pig on her head when she was playing with it one day, and it turns out said guinea pig had a form of tinea.

Bottom line though - if that first doctor had diagnosed properly the first time - my neice would not have had to go through what she has.
You get what you give....

That is DISGUSTING!!! Change doctors now. What an idiot. I worked as a receptionist for four bulk billing doctors a few years back and they would NEVER have said that to a patient. There are good doctors out there. Shop around.

My 5c worth of what gives me the shirts. The increase of four wheel drives in the inner city. They never go bush and they seem to be the new status symbol amongst the CUBS in my suburb, who take their precious little CUBBETTES to school in them because they can't walk them the three blocks, and thereby clog up small, clogged up roads even more.

After putting up with my local Doc for a number of years, I've just recently changed quacks and so far Im wrapt with my new doc (even if he does have a strong CDFC allegiance).

Wasn't sure where to look, so I just went to Sportsmed at Stepney .. I now have 2 doctors that I can see, and feel highly comfortable with both - 1 will always be available on the day I need to see them and they can both access my medical records .. Problem solvered.

Doctors hey.

I have found a doctor at a clinic near where I live. He is about my age ( mid 30's ), speaks fluent English, I am very comfortable talking to him about anything. It truly does feel like I've hit the jackpot.

Brod, my wife had a similar "tiredness" and she went to a Naturopath. Whilst it was quite costly $$ wise she is having no issues now. A slight diet change (cutting out some things) and eating more fruit & veg made a huge difference. On the Doctor part of it, my wife was referrred to the Naturopath by the Doctor, so that has worked for us as well.

Its funny seeing the rich snobbie people on my way to work in either a land rover, discovery or prado and you can just tell that they never use it to go away. Doesnt effect me as much as I can see past them but it used to piss me off when I had a smaller car!
Unfortunately there is nothing you can really do about it.

I've always wondered why rego increases with engine size? Surely weight of the car would be a better indicator on what is doing more damage to the roads etc. therefore costing tax payers more.

Double the price and double the rego and then see how essential these kid taxis are. Unfortunately that effects people like your good self who use 4WDs the way God intended. So it's not an option.
In the inner city of Melbourne it really has became an issue though as anyone who has driven here knows. Not only are the roads worse laid out and smaller than Adelaide's , but most of them have tram tracks running down the centre.

Interesting point. i guess generally years ago cars with more cylinders were usually bigger so they went down that path.

meanwhile i was part of an interesting discussion a while ago. supposedly the total "damage" caused to the roads by light vehicles (ie sedans, wagons, utes etc) is nil. absolutely zero! the vehicles that cause the most damage are obviously the semis and b doubles etc.

however "nature", being rain, sun etc causes quite a bit of deterioration also. basically the only reason light vehicles are charged rego is cos the government cant charge mother nature for the deterioration, and subsequent necessary maintenance, to the road network!!

i thought it was a very interesting point of view if true. not that it would change my rego at all if it was, but if someone could argue the point maybe all "light" vehicles could then pay the same and my ute rego wouldnt cost me as much!!

Rego is already more then a sedan.
My Hilux costs $255 for the quarter while a Falcon I only just sold was I beleive $205 a quarter. And no I dont tick the tax input thing when registering it.
Even if you did double it, problem is, half the people that have the car could probs afford double the cost of rego and would still pay it, thus not eliminating them, only normal 4wders and farmers.

Zeleny Chucks so they do go on the size in some cases, I think it may only be for utes though :(

The reason these mothers love the cars is cause they can see everything while usually they struggle to see over the steering wheel. Example is my brother has a 4wd for going away and his wife loves driving it for that simple reason! Plus she feels safer in that car.

Rego for "commercial" vehicles is based on their weight. that includes utes like the hilux, holden ss, ford xr8 and even down to the old subaru brumby or suzuki mighty boy!! and they are also usually quite a bit higher than non commercial vehicles.

unfortunately stuff like land cruisers (the wagons, not the utes) land rovers, prado's, pajero's etc are based on their number of cylinders. grouped in 4 or less, 5 - 6 cylinders and eight and above. therefore the 4 cylinder diesel prado actually costs less to rego than a falcon or commodore!!

Farmers get discounted rego any way as they are primary producers plus they also have to register the tractor, header, truck and many more pieces of machinery

Funnily enough, I pulled up at the intersection of Kensington and Glynburn roads today only to realise that the 3 cars in front of me were 4WD's as were the 2 behind me and the one next to me :?

Ok, yes...I was in Kensington...

Farmers only get primary producer discount on commercial vehicles, ie utes. if they have a 4wd wagon they get no discount on that at all.
