to put it succinctly- you are spot on

Xenophon is a one trick pony- elected on a no-pokies platform.

Let's examine exactly what he has accomplished during his Senate term..... geez I can't think
I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.

He's a member of the Qantas Captains Club. Gets free piss at airports - and that's good work!

He has been very vocal on irrigator issues, as well as product labelling, particularly fruit juice.
Without him, those issues would have no voice on the Federal stage.
There are things I don't like about Mr X but he has done some good things.
As an Independent, is his role really to bring about change? Or is it to raise awareness of issues which concern him and his constituents? When he does this, the big parties sit up and notice issues they can jump on and adopt them as their own.
Andrew Wilkie is doing this with pokies at the moment.

You have to look past the stunts.

Ever heard the phrase "spending the kids inheritance"?

As I said this is just my opinion but it could explain his stance on pokies.

I did know Nick Xenophon before he became a politician, from about 1986 in fact.
I referred a couple of my WorkCover patients to him after a certain north-eastern venue had plied them both with free booze and pointed them at he pokies until they'd lost most of their lump sum settlements to the organisation...
I think his motivations for standing were genuinely as he stated in his comments about how he came to enter politics.

I also knew the guy who was number 2 on the ticket at the time.
I saw Nick last in mid-2010 when we were both at a mutual friend's wedding [another lawyer].

Come on DV. New Idea, Womens Day, Take 5. This sort of trash sells and sells big. Why? Because people are nosy by nature. If you attend church, classic example. People natter away about who she was seen with, or how much he spent on a car. It starts at community level and goes right through society, obviously celebrites are the peak of this trend. The more famous the subject, the more popular talking point they are. Meanwhile there are unknowns doing miraculous things in third world countries you may never hear about.

This all is very true and if you really want or need to know what someone is doing move to a country town even a town the size of 5000 people every one knows what someone is doing.
