Greatest Song of all Time

Postby Media Park » Thu Feb 10, 2011 7:58 pm

The missus has just sparked debate, that I figure could rage on here until the end of time...

She seems to think "Living on a Prayer" is the best song EVER...

Who's going to be brave enough to top her... ;)

Well I'm sure you "top her" at every opportunity MP but the greatest song of all time is probably going to fall somwhere inbetween Bing Crosby White Christmas and the Beatles Let it be. Then again...Bob Marley or Bob Dylan could slip in there.

Boy, this one will go for pages and pages and spark plenty of debate - you're a brave man, MP :)

Guess it comes down to, is a song the greatest of all time or is it someone's FAVORITE of all time.

Not even certain which one I could list here, but "Under The Milky Way" by The Church was the first that came to mind.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

I doubt theres a "greatest song of all time", however most people no doubt have a favourite song, or songs.

This will probably spark a massive debate on its own, but in all honesty, I find Bob Dylan one of the most monumentally overrated artists of all time. I realise his work was considered great for its time, but much of it hasn't stood up well, IMHO.

Is anyone going to list their personal favourites? :)

Mine would include:
- True (Spandau Ballet)
- Invisible Touch (Genesis)
- If You're Gone (Matchbox 20)
- Thats When I Think Of You (1927)

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that, though a fair bit of his stuff has been covered by other artists and been successful for them.

Radio stations have had these promotions for years.
From what I can remember, generally it's a toss up between Stairway to Heaven and Bohemian Rhapsody.
But I agree that it's all down to your most favourite song rather than there being a best ever.

I love to hear Bon Jovi, but Living on a Prayer would be about the 5th/6th Bon Jovi song I'd choose.

Hotel of California
Knockin' on Heavens Door (the Song - any version rocks)
Lightning Crashes
Wonderwall
Bohemian Rhapsody
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

If its personal favorites, then agree with Smithy, Hotel California will be very high on my list too.

End Of The Innocence - Don Henley
Don't Change - INXS
Us And Them - Pink Floyd
From Now On - Supertramp
Four Seasons In One Day - Crowded House
Don't Dream Its Over - Crowded House (actually, this would go awfully close in any "greatest song" poll, IMHO. Nearly the perfect lyric throughout and beautifully constructed)
