First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

Glenn Ashmead

I've been saying for at least 6 years now that the Redbacks selectors could do a lot worse than seriously consider this guy for the one day team. A fast medium bowler, good fielder, and sensational hitter of the ball (Gilchrist-esque), he is a natural for the one day game.

Yesterday in Grade cricket, Sturt were chasing Northern Districts' massive 7/362. Ashmead walked in at 5/104 and proceeeded to belt the cover off the ball to the tune of 187 not out including 5 sixes and 26 fours. Apparently he said afterwards it was too hot to be running so he decided to hit boundaries :)

Sturt reached Northern Districts score with 5 balls to spare, wonderful effort. Now if he can only reproduce that today against the Browns in the one-day final.

That's a pretty impressive innings from the sounds of things. Sounds like a very entertaining game. Not much fun for the bowlers or fielders though.

I remember playing in a game when we had the opposition 5/40 and the guy coming in at 7 proceeded to smash 190. He then came out the next week and took 8/34. Only hi-light of that game for me was one of our team asking "bowlers name" when he came on for his second spell. No fun when you think you are well and truly on top and that happens.

Fantastic performance.
AH - would his bowling stand up to 1st class cricket? Was this innings a one off or has he been this destructive in the past?

mal even you would concede that it is insulting to Keith Miller to even mention Shane Watson in the same breath as him. Shame on you.

He is well know for his hitting and has made runs in the past. 187 is easily his highest score. I guess the thing preventing him from playing for SA is he tends to bat around 6 or 7. He needs to bat higher to be recognised by the selectors. He is a very energetic bowler is is giving as much effort at 6pm as he was at 11am. He has taken bags of wickets in the past, and I would think his bowling would be acceptable enough for the one-day game, probably not Pura Cup.

Thank you for such an incisive and intelligible comment. Why comment if you have nothing to say?
