Talk on the national game

Essendon Season 2011

Postby hearts on fire » Sun Feb 06, 2011 7:08 pm

Well with there huge coaching panel and the man himself James Hird coaching, surely we will see vast improvement in the Bombers!!

Even with Jimmy and Bomber there, can't see them being any real threat to anyone in the competition, 10-14 finish for me!

2011 talk on Bombers WILL be right here!!

FROM AFL SITE:

James Hird will make his home and away coaching debut in a Sunday afternoon clash against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium. A week later, Essendon will travel to Sydney to take on the Swans at ANZ Stadium.

As in previous years, Essendon will be part of the Anzac Day blockbuster at the MCG, which in 2011 falls in round five. The Bombers also play in the Dreamtime at the 'G match against Richmond on a Saturday night in round nine.

The Bombers have four home matches at the MCG and all feature Victorian opponents - Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond and Melbourne. They have seven home games at Etihad Stadium, including a big-drawing clash with Geelong in round 15.

I reckon we will improve by a bit this year. Think 9th-12th spot is realistic but could sneak into 8th.
Could suprise a few sides this year.
Hope we still play entertaining fast football, just need to cut down the maulings we got last year.

As a Loyal Bombers Supporter, dont have great expectations this year, but if we can be competitive and play some good footy would be great. I think the "Jimmy Hird" project is a long term one, so better to work hard now and see if we can build some young guys for another competitive crack within the next 3-4 years.

Brisbane will be tough to beat but it's worthwhile giving the Bombers a stir.

Yeah Brisbane might save them. They will be the bottom 2 though is my prediction. Maybe with West Coast

Even the Bears did better than that. This side has had a couple of years to prepare for their entry into the league. They won't be world beaters, especially away from home but in Qld they'll win their share of matches. I reckon they might win about six.

I would love to see the Bombers finish top eight but I think they will do better than that. Both pre-season training sessions that I looked in on at Windy Hill were very sharp. Mark Thompson himself told me that he thought the attitude and enthusiasm in the group was first class.
As any Essendon fan will tell you, we have to stay ahead of Carlton and now Collingwood because no other club is going to boast 16 premierships in the next few years.

Top 4, Top 6????

Darth, what's Thompson going to say really? "Actually, we're pretty ordinary, with a pretty ordinary list, i think we'll finish 12th".

You must have been there in December when those sorts of words were flowing freely around the car park at Windy Hill!
But the players are in a better frame of mind these days because they look up to Hird/Thompson and Goodwin is a quality unit who sticks his two bob's worth in.

Well the thing about Essendon is they have a huge tradition to look up to. The ground is breathtakingly full of history and when young recruits get inducted into this atmosphere they sometimes grow a leg. A champion team will always beat a team of other champions.

Except - uhmm - having 16 premierships in the bag when only Carlton can match that sort of says something about the Essendon Football Club doesn't it?

Fair enough i just would suspect that every coach or assistant would be saying the same thing before a ball has been bounced in anger.

Yeah Geelong look pretty good at least. Two premiership in their history and 50% of them were engineered by an Essendon captain turned coach
