Remind her of the old tradition that the Bride's parents pay for the wedding and reception.
I think the Groom or his family hires the coaches or cars, but I'm not sure now?

now it tends to be more a 50-50 investment

Ppffttt...

I wish...

Me and missus had to fork out about 90% of the total cost (just under $20k from memory) :?

Got Married March 1997 at the Greek Superdome in Franklin St, up West tce end

The wedding before us was running late therefore they didnt get the chance to remove all the professional flowers they had put in the church (on every isle) so we got the benefit of approc $3k of flowers for ours :D

Had the reception in Sturt St which my wifes Uncle owned at the time so he kept the staff on until 3am, huge night. Then my wife invited others to continue partying in our room at the Hilton, about 10 turned up and drank the mini bar dry.

Left at 8am for the airport and our honeymoon, paid $250 for the room and only spent 3 hours together there

Cant remember what our song was, I do remember suggesting Throw your arms around me by Hunters and getting scoffed at.

Had 220 at the wedding and that was small for the Greeks! (only 60 were from my side)

Once a mate of mine scheduled his wedding for round 1 of a new SANFL season. I missed the wedding ceremony, but went to the reception after the game.

Mmy mate is getting married on AFL grand final day this year.

In Canada!

Gonna go to the wedding but might steer clear of the Vegas buck's night.

We have to pay for our entire wedding ourselves.

Everything is so expensive.

Everyone wants deposits and everytime we save up a good amount to hopefully earn interest we have to pay something else.

Wished i had eloped..

In a similar boat mate. All I can say is, look at every option available, leave no stone unturned and negotiate hard. Because my partner's cousin is a florist and can do the flower arrangements and we know someone who can do our chair covers, we managed to negotiate a four course reception with 5.5 hrs of booze for $99 a head.

Eloping would have been great, but it would have meant most of my mates would have probably missed out because of work and money, and for me a big part of the whole shebang is having them there for the piss-up.

That's exactly why we did a cocktail reception. No sit down meals, just everyone standing around drinking and eating finger food. For our mob it worked well. I think the price was about 30 a head including drinks for 4 hours (might be 5 hours, can't remember).

We felt that sit down receptions were "stuffy" and it meant we were sitting up there like stunned mullets with everyone gawking at us the entire time. We wanted more of a party. So that option worked brilliantly for us.

Be nice if they were still $30 a head :( Most decent cocktail function packages (4+ hrs of food and booze) are well in excess of $80 nowadays.

Mine will be $121 a head.

Sit down 4 course, my choice of beers. (going Corona, Super Dry and maybe Heinekin)

Only having about 90-100 people. (will be some serious culling!!)

Once i pay for everything and my overseas honeymoon i'm sitting at about 35k.

Seems mad for just one day but my missus is pretty into it and I'd rather regret spending the $$ than not giving her her dream wedding.

One thing we're looking at doing is hiring a photo booth for the night and setting it up in the reception area for people to have a bit of fun with. I had to laugh when my partner remarked that at least it would stop my friends from taking photos of their penises and I unflinchingly replied "No. No it won't."

Exactly the same boat as me, my missus and i are planning on going on a 'round the world trip' for our honeymoon. This consists of 4 destinations anywhere in the world i believe for around $2.5k each. Wedding venue yet to be decided but i know it is not going to be cheap. My missus is really into it and i know she will want it to be a day to remember, meh if she is happy i am happy :D

My missus has mentioned the same thing, but has since decided she wants to have a book at the entrance where everyone gets there photo taken (as a couple or on your own) and you can write your message next to it. This won't capture all the drunken antics but will be a good piece of memorabilia for the day!

We got lucky as we paid for most things ourselves BUT

had family members buy us certain things such as the cake, the flowers as wedding gifts.

Our reception at the Belair Country Club was only about $80 a head for a 3 course meal with drinks included from pre-dinner to about 10:30pm (you had 4 hours of 'drinks' included and you could start/finish that whenever you like).

Shop around and you'll find something in your price range.
