Hey Phantom, I thought you said you didn't personally know Damir Dokic..?!?? ;)

We lost to cougars lot. They passed our score just before lunch and then asked us for a t20 style second innings... we said no. They went in after lunch and threw the rest of their wickets away with JS picking up 3 and Krafty picking up 2 in the 4 overs after lunch lol.
we batted out the rest of the day and ended up on 5/120 ish.

What about the other games??

looking at all the scores in Div 1, some positions come down to last game, exciting. Can understand the Prara Vista captain wanting a t20 style secoind innings for someone to get an outright result, as PV could wrap up top spot if they did come away with outright win, but why wouldnt the rose park captain want to play for outright as well, to get closer to 4th spot?.

if you read the post, it is the other way round . rose park wanted the t/2- and vista said no...

sorry smasha your right. now that does and doest make sense, rose park would want to try for outright to try get closer to 4th spot, cant beloeve Para Vista captain wasnt up for it, they will likely lose top spot now to nek?

Only 30 overs left in the day no way we could win outright you lose 3 for change of innings so in 27 overs it made no sense. I am sure all other teams would of done the same. If we want to finish top we have to beat one of the best teams in the comp over the last three years. This is what finals are about BRING IT ON!!! If they wanted an outright maybe they should not have taken 65 overs to score 140.

It was the other way round as I read it benji. :? Rose Park wanted the 'contrived' outcome.

too true spintwin, if you take that long you cant expect to turn around and ask for a t20.
thats suicide for vista, they would have more to lose than gain....
we at nek know it was always going to come down to the last game for top spot.
we will not take them lightly either , we know what they are capable of and wont right them off at any stage.
will be a good last game aswell, shame I am sitting this one out
game on mo fo,s ;)

You are right we had nothing to lose but also nothing to gain. How about you guys try winning more minor round games and then maybe you will deserve the chance to play in finals. You should not need to rig a game of cricket to make finals.

spintwin, i dont actually play for rose park, no need to get on your high horse, why is it rigging a game of cricket? it gives the opportunity for both teams, vista to gaurantee top spot and/or rose park a chance of 4th spot... games are setup like this in cricket all the time to try get an outright, just stating a point.

We got smashed. We were 3/45 after 32 overs(tea). And it was down hill from there. I'm pretty embarrased how i got out, bowled by a slow ball. Ive got myself out some pretty ordinary ways over the years but saturdays was up there. Im gonna have to add "dumbest smart batter" in the comp to my list.
Adelaide Luth bowled damn straight, their plan was obviously to bowl straight and pitched up and dry the runs up and wait for us to do the rest and we obliged. All credit to them and i rate Peters captaincy, made the right moves fielding and bowling wise when needed.
Sorry cougar to undo your good work against Vi$ta, but we had one of our days that we do every now and then. Hopefully its out the way now and we can get on with playing some good cricket. And to end my sports journalism career.....CRICKET SUCKS ARSE SOME TIMES!

Who's this Auto bloke? And I only hold one Fitzroy player responsible for your loss, and it's that serial pest superbad! He must be held accountable for this unexcusable performance  ;)

Fair assesment by Bored too. GH the old electric cricket team mate of yours took over the captaincy reigns this game and couldn't get off to a better start. The bowlers (Spencer and Clark) set up the win last week, and the bats grinded out the runs with DeIonno, Clark and the new skip leading the way. Krafty came on to destroy our lower order but the damage had been done by then. Our 2nd innings fielding performance probably showed why we are sitting 5th, with some of the worst dropped catches seen (I reckon Marshall has had a cats life against us this season) and a run out chance in the 2nd over where Smith and Hodson got caught at the same end, exchanged phone numbers and still got back home. Still managed to grab 5 wickets and hopefully finish off the season on a high this game against Lutheran.

How did you go on the weekend Cougar. I hear you had a problem with the doosra. Was it the spin or flight or lack of both which got you :D

It's certainly not 'rigging', but it's contriving a result from a match that otherwise wouldn't have happened. Yes, it happens, especially as the season rolls on towards Finals. A few years ago when I was out at Walkies, we dropped from 3rd to 5th in the last game due to several contrived results, despite winning our final minor round match and missed out on the Finals by something stupid like 0.02% - a measly 2 runs in the whole scheme of things!  It was the only week of the season we weren't entrenched in the Top 4.. :(

As yes, the therapy is going well thanks... :p

mate, if teams need more points coming into finals then it is easy , WIN MORE GAMES DURING THE NORMAL SEASON.
should not have to ask the opposition to play a t/20 for you to make more points.

 I blame the PV blokes I went away with for this weekends dismissal. They didn't tell me that this Bevan bloke has an armory of deliveries that can deceive any batsman. After just managing to keep out his first few at me, he then lured me with his 'Mystery Ball' which did everything and had me playing a false shot a fair distance away from the bowler. To my dismay he then jumped 5 metres to his left to take a one handed catch when the scorers had already given me a single for a shot down the ground. I think in my short time in this comp I have now become Bevan's Bunny and pray that he retires at the end of the season or fear I may have the type of nightmares Darryl Cullinan use to have about Shane Warne.

So can you tell me how we were going to get anything out of a t20 style second innings? We would be batting first and even if we smashed 150 from the 15 ish overs, we would have to declare. Rose park could just slog and if they didn't look like making it then shut up shop and PV had no chance of getting outright.
Yep sounds fair to me...
If they wanted an outright they should have tried to make our runs in the first 10 - 15 of the day and sent us in again to try to bowl us out.
