I thought it was too short to properly see a batsmen graft out an innings and the bowlers were just making up the numbers at first. I like it now though, there are some real strategies being applied and the Redbacks have proven that bowlers can do well in the format.

There's room for all three formats, Test cricket will always be No 1 for me but sometimes getting to watch a game in full on a week night is good value. You miss big chunks of Test & OD cricket while at work etc but with 20/20 you get the whole lot.

If you wanted a new car you wouldn't be able to drive it out of the showroom until you paid for it. You couldn't get out of Woolies with a trolley full of goodies until you paid for it. You won't even get out of a dentist or doctors surgery until money or kind changes hands. Why would you play some dodgy version of the beautifl game in India for nothing - just on the word of some greasy spiv who says the cheque is in the mail. Teams should insist on payment up front then let the IPL wankers try and run the circus without any teams.

Unless it was a cheap, tacky version of a classic model that the great unwashed could purchase on hire purchase without really understanding or caring about the stately lines of the original.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. I haven't watched a game of it since the about the second match played in Australia. The American style presentation of what was my favourite summer sport sickened me. Why would I not admit it? I've admitted it plenty of times when I've been wrong in the past because unfortunately I'm so darn good at it. I would only be lying to myself. If I was even half interested in teeball you would have seen me pumping up the Blues efforts for when we won this lottery a couple of years ago and for this year's efforts. I couldn't give a Malcolm Blight's whether we beat you blokes this weekend or not.

You don't need to watch it to know 'what is going on'. That is how shallow it is. Swing, swing, cha ching...Aussies down the tubes.

WTF? I've played the ball, not the man when it comes to teeball. So why did I venture into this thread? Because the only positive I see out of the destruction of our domestic scene for this bullshit is the possible cash injection to our state coffers but the very fact that these bandits haven't parted with a red rupee tends to back my assertion that the whole thing is a dildo up the arse of Australian Cricket.

I was just geeing you up before but seriously you won't be watching Saturday night's final? On the whole Champions League thing NSW got paid their $2.5 million for winning in '09 (about six months after the event) and the Vics got paid their money too. With last year the Redbacks are owed $1.05 million and the Vics around $500K and supposedly we/they will be paid within the next fortnight.

Not justifying the late payments or anything but they do pay up eventually and in our case (SACA for example) we can't exactly threaten to go and play in some other non-existent Champions League. I'm sure the SACA will be very happy with that $525K (half for the players half for the SACA) cheque they bank in a few weeks.

Nope. I won't be watching the teeball final. My rating of teeball is so low that I will probably be watching A League instead, seeing as I want to keep an eye on the Preliminary Final in my fantasy comps.

No chance. I should get onboard and enjoy teeball because everyone else is? Seems a strange way for me to decide how I spend my spare time I would have thought. People told me to get with the times when Basketball was huge and apparently Soccer was once the way forward. When teeball grows stale as 50 over cricket did then you'll be telling me to get with the times and watch this fantastic new spectacle of ten ten cricket. It's coming my friend because attention spans are getting shorter and administrators are getting greedier.

When the Sheild Final gets scrapped next year for this bullshit are you going to come on and tell me how that is 'good for the domestic game'. Also, what is good about the dismantling of our domestic one day competition during a World Cup year? How is this good for the domestic game? The only reason the split innings format was introduced was due to the influence of teeball.

Less cricket is less cricket and teeball isn't cricket at all. If I wanted to follow Baseball I'd go watch the Brisbane Bandits. I know that a lot of people follow this rubbish and that's fine but what isn't fine is how the administrators (and temporary custodians) of the game are putting it ahead of everything else. This in my opinion is to the detriment of Cricket...a sport that I do follow.

Top post REB, i for one am an advocate of the 20/20 format, ONLY in moderation. I like the excitement that it brings to the game but hate what it is doing to the domestic game and the level of precedence it is taking with international players. What once was the pinnacle of the game, the test cap is very quickly taking a back seat to earning the coin in 6 weeks work with the IPL.

However, 20/20 suits different players and a broader cross section of society of fans, so ask yourself, what is really wrong with that?
I think your viewpoint was very popular when 20/20 was introduced, but now people understand what it’s all about it and love it.

I love the Tee-ball name attached to Twenty20 cricket. It is soooooo insulting that it hits the mark for me. I'm a sports junkie and I have very firm ideas what I like and don't like. T20 is right up there with those other two dreadful round ball games - soccer (ugh) and basketball (ditto).
Now, have the redbacks been paid yet? Can someone find out and let me know? Thanks...

I don't think that the longer game will end, but I believe the current implementation of the code could have serious effects on how effective the Sheffield Shield will continue to be to fulfill it's primary function: the development of test cricketers.

The Sheffield Shield has provided the backbone for the most successful test side in the world over the entire history of the game. While we are not number one now we hold a good record against every test playing nation. The problem I have with the current set up is that now the Sheffield Shield is fast becoming a stepping stone to the Big Bash and the Champions league rather than to donning the Baggy Green.

I firmly believe that Australia didn't need to introduce this format as we were making money from the game as it was. England invented it and needed it because the County scene is a joke. India saw it as a chance to match Australia fiscally after overtaking us politically. The Champions league and IPL have succeeded beyond the BCCI's wildest dreams. Some form of teeball was always going to be played in this country but is it in fact drawing (and will it continue to hold) new fans or is it just the 50 over fans now attending teeball matches instead. I believe that for a short term benefit the long term benefits of what the domestic scene has provided have been sacrificied. We have players like Shaun Tait electing not to represent his country. He has been slagged on this site but seriously, why should he bother busting his chops when he clean up by bowling four overs? Next year the Sheild Final, the closest thing that many domestic cricketers will get to test match conditions is in danger of being scrapped. This years domestic one day cricket competition has been bastardised during a world cup year. In my view none of this was desirable nor should have it been inevitable.

Now who wants to watch me zac a few dingers? Meanwhile Australian Cricket is being scooped up and put under the hat much to the delight of the new number one nation in test cricket. I don't advocate the scrapping of the format but CA MUST PUT PRIORITY ON TEST CRICKET...AND WHAT CREATES TEST CRICKETERS.

Teeball? A game that is in favour of the bat and not really cricket.

again some valid points, but why do you care so much about all that, as long as test cricket remains don't worry yourself! what ever happens will happen, cricket will always be there, look at the history in the game !
and the fact is the kids are going to grow up with 20/20 and it will go strength to strength IMO.
go the backs stady night, should be a good game with great atmosphere.
