I haven't paid enough attention this year to know whos out there, but I notice a few posters talking up a bloke called Quinney on another thread, would it worth going after someone like this who has delivered early but is still yet to make his mark and wouldn't be entrenched in his current state's lineup?

OK CONSTANCY,

Lets look at Quinny. I have the same view of J BORGAS. Both these players (forget the rain in bris) scored less than 50% strike rates on the 3rd day when their teams were trying to set totals. Had they been quicker it may have allowed early declarations/biger leads. It smelt of batting for their spotr rather than the team. I DIDNT LIKE IT

In answer to who I would rate as a Marque player I would suggest that Kallis would be an example of one..and one that would be impossible to lure at that. My point is that Flower is good but Garner and especially Richards and Sobers are greats.

As for such gems as 'anyone who knows anything about Cricket rates Flower as a great' or something along those lines remember this...Flower only played ONE test match against Australia for 28 runs and two outs in his own country. Flower is a Zimbabwe great perhaps but IMO Zimbabwe have yet to produce a truly great player.

The reason I offered both players satistics was to show that I dont think there was a gulf between them.

My point is that FLOWER was a massive recruit and a quality international player who sadly didnt perform in his 1 season with sa.

I doubt the there would have been a higher profile non australian player available to recruit at the time

At the moment, these guys are playing for their careers. not to entertain a few drunks in the outer.

Are you trying to tell me that Jason Borgas has not been playing for his state? He's the best performed batsman in the team at present. He's not a swashbuckler like Lehmann, he occupies his crease and makes bowlers work hard for his wicket, and this is what makes him a valuable opener in a team that has struggled to bat out the day.

In his innings so far for the Redbacks, each time he has batted himself into a position where he could push up the run rate, a wicket falls at the other end, so he is forced to go back into his shell and ensure another wicket doesn't fall quickly. Jason is an excellent team man, so don't think for a moment he is putting himself ahead of the team. The point I made was there are other, more cemented players in the team whose responsibility it is to elevate the run rate. Players in their first few games are worried about early failures because they don't have previous from to fall back on like Lehmann does.

As for Quinny, I haven't seen him bat, but to be too critical on one performance would be very unfair. Just remember, when Justin Langer first came into the Australian team he was very demure because he was trying to cement a place in the team. Once he gained a regular spot, his confidence grew and his batting really took off.

Mal is right on this one. Don't crucify these guys because of their early performances. At this stage of players careers they are just trying to find their feet. Both these guys show a lot of promise. Don't get carried away with stats when judging them. Had the Aussie selectors not looked beyond stats a young S.K. Warne would not have made his Test debut when he did.

Your right I am a bit harsh. I have met Jason a few times and he is a good lad. The only thing I will say is that be it right or wrong it seems as though they were batting selfishly when a quicker runs were needed to push for outright.

I didnt see either innings so its really quite silly to comment.

In actual fact is good to see someone from sa value their wicket and by the look of th strike rate borgas did
