hi gang
had some mixed news reach my doorstep in verdun late last night regarding THE MIGHTY RAIDERS fortunes for 2011...

firstly i was hit by a bombshell that rocked me to the very core... boom recruit BIG peter dimondopoulus will not be gracing THE FORTRESS in season 2011.
my understanding is that a shattered pete broke the news to the playing group last week... its a unwanted set back because i had earmerked this kid for big things in 2011.

have to admit the next bit of news had my son screaming from the barnyard roof tops!!! he was over the proverbial moon when he heard that the smith brothers will be at the helm for season 2011. i believe my sons favourite player steven has been handed the fleurieu cranes captains geurnsey for next season. he will be the spiritual leader with brother haydn his deputy.
inspired selections by optimus and the towers road brainstrust.

finally >>>WATCH THIS SPACE<<< re the recruiting front for the mighty RAIDERS.
believe we are on the verge of landing a BIG unit with SANFL experience who will hopefully be our ROCK in the back 6 for many years to come.

RAIDERS till I DIE!!!

I think you'll find that shane collins coached the dogs for at least 4 of the last 8 years. Coached for 2 years then went to north for a couple then back to the dogs. So i think you maths doesnt add up.. Troy Bond was back in about 2000 but i could be wrong. But hey they still have only missed out on finals footy once in at least the last 10 years.

Apparently his sacking more about not meeting set criteria - Onkas seem to be making a habit of NOT choosing wisely - whats that now...7 coaches in 8 years - surely time is nigh for an overhaul at the top.

Lets count:
Dave Evans
Shane Lynch
Alan Stringer
Ray Ladhams
Shane Collins
your gonna have to help me alice......

You can add Barrie Schoell to that list as he coached after Stringers 5 games. Dave Thomas too in 05, although I think you mixed him up with Ray Ladhams. And Troy Bond in 02. So with the new coach its probably more accurate to say 8 in 9 years.

I heard a whisper that Onka's have thrown huge coin at a lot of different players and a number of them said no because they didn't want to be coached by Evo. The committee got wind of what was going on and realised that the only way they would have any chance of recruiting any of their targets was to move Evo aside.

Anyone heard a similar story?[/quote]

Couldn't see Evans landing any coaching gigs anytime soon, he has most leagues covered.

Heard at Onkas that he didnt come through with some of his plans, and a few players where not happy to play under him,so the committee asked him to move on.

02 - Collins
03 - Collins
04 - Ray Ladhams (Had no idea he coached there)
05 - Dave Thomas
06 - A Stringer, B Schoell
07 - Collins
08 - Collins
09 - Lynch
10 - Evans

So it is 7 in 8 years, but yes 7 in 9 is probably more accurate. Bond was in 01. Did he coach a whole season?

Im very suprised that football mad doesn't have an opinion on the current coaching crisis at onkas. Seems that with Evan's departure has also gone football mad's interest at the club............

I think this might be spot on. Onkas to go with Russell Godson as head coach, with maybe an assistant type roll from the captain.

We noticed the same thing at Reynella. Fly's comments about Reynella came to a halt after he got the gig at Onkas. Just a coincidence, I suppose

So have OV made an announcement or not? With them sacking the coach for not having recruiting ability, surely the new coach would come with packaged players?

Dave evans is a good bloke nice guy and a good coach has done nothing wrong i hope the club finds what they are looking for because it cant always be the coachs fault 7-9 years maybe the committee and players should take some responality for they actions anyway best of luck to them
