WHITE 13 failed in a pressure situation again, is the end near.

Im stunned how the wicketkeeper batted number 3 today
Haddin is an exceptional batsman batting in the middle order
but batting 3 is a bit too presumptious.
Surely Hodge or Watson should bat 3 before him.

dont be too hasty there mal lets not forget how many years the side carried symonds

But surely after a few games Symonds had actually shown enough for him to be retained for the long term?

All White has done in the 14 ODI's that he has played so far is score 102 runs @ 17.00 (HS 45) and taken 4 wickets @ 43.00

In 14 ODI's Symonds had 275 runs @ 25.00 (HS 68*) and taken 16 wickets @ 20.80
The majority of Symonds first 14 games were also played out of Australia.

I can't understand the selectors love affair with White - and I am beginning to see what Mal has been saying...pick James Hopes.

Playing in the MK home town, you can be confident there will not be sun for long. The wind should be slowing down from a billowy 200kph today to perhaps a wispy 100kph tonight, favouring the home side.

but you cant compare the two players stats after 14 matches as in the first 7ish i think white was "played" as a supersub so didnt get the chance to bat and only bowled a couple of overs

As you all know I have advocated for WHITE to be selected.
The only spot avaialable is the number 7 allrounders spot.
If he is not going to be used as a bowler than it might be
more benficial to play a speciallist batsman instead.
If he is going to bowl 3 overs a game then someone like
David HUSSEY, Adam VOGES James HOPES or Darren LEHMANN might be better selections.

Having said all that flat pitches, small grounds and a diet of spin
and military meduims will suit WHITES batting in the WI as he murders those types.

WATSON bats too low, he is too correct and needs to build an innings.
I have maintained from day 1 he needs to bat top 4 and bowl .
Batting at 7 or 8 he gets out trying to slog too often.
If he continues to bat too low his batting form will subside.
As an opener he was a valuable player.

WHITE has deserved selection, bur needs to deliver in a pressure situation very very soon.
WATSON has some good efforts in the past and needs to be retained
WATSON made a nice 37 in the last EG /AU finals game, ironically no
one on this site mentioned that lovley innings

Can anyone think of a bigger thumping than this in recent memory?
Back to the days when the WI used to summarily thump us in ODIs?

I was at a Aus vs NZ game at Adelaide Oval 20 years when we were absolutely caned (200 runs) by the Kiwis.
Possibly Australia's worst ever performance.

Match over!

What an embarrassment.
First time Australia has been beaten by 10 wickets in an ODI.

HUSSEY 1st game as AU skipper and it showed.

WINNING A GAME OF CRICKET WITH 148
------------------------------------------------
Firstly the game will only go 40 overs.
When a side is 0/70 of about 18 overs chasing 148 the way to win
this game is to bowl your best bowlers and win the game.
If you are fair dinkum you bowl MCGRATH/BRACKEN out completely.
You dont bowl WATSON or HOGG until the MCGRATH / BRACKEN
have bowled out thier 10 each...and then JOHNSON must be bowled out as well.

When International skippers only have 150 or less to declare they should
ring Captain MAL up on how to TRY and win.
First rule is you treat it like a test match and attack
3 slips 2 gullys short leg no third man ........
You do not give MCGRATH a spell you try to bowl him out and try and win, if
this was a test match would you bowl WATSON + HOGG ....NO NO NO NO NO.
Simplistic logic in my book.

Anyways WATSON bowled crapp but I have to defend him
as the 3 other guys that think he goes ok desert me when the going gets tough.
He is bowling about 8 kms slower than his peak performances.[if unfit why picked ?]
And he was let down by some inept captaining

score 0/75 odd
Watson [3rd ball i think ]
Watson bowls Vincent edges to 1st slip + is caught WATSON has 1/0......
O
O
P
S
thats right we are trying to win and no 1st slip    DUMB.
next ball a 6
Watson not 1/0 off 4 balls
Watson 0/10 of 4 balls

DID WE SEE THE CATCHES HADDIN WAS DIVING FOR WHERE A SLIP SHOULD HAVE BEEN :!:
MJ suffered as well.

When you cant win bowl WHITE/HODGE if there is about 20 runs left as well

THE LAST WORD
When you are trying to bowl a side out cheaply the first
position you install as a captain for the WHOLE innings is FIRST SLIP
I LEARNT THAT PLAYING PARKLANDS SCRUBBER CRICKET .

Mal

I take on board your point that watson is more suited to the top of the order, my issue with that strategy is, in my opinion he is not in our best 5 opener options, he want displace ponting at #3, and there is also 4 or 5 better options at #4, so if there is no position for he at 1, 2 or 4 and if he has to bat 6 or 7, should he play?
