By the looks of that picture - is it moving faster than they think??

They just said expected to hit by 10pm tomorrow - but that 'storm' seems to have moved pretty fast since the last shot.

My cousin and her family are preparing to evacuate as we speak, they live in a little beach village called Cungulla, just out of Townsville and have been forcefully evacuated as their homes could face both isolation from any flooding but also devestation from storm surge from the sea.

They're staying with my Aunty in Townsville.

Ironically, they've only been back in this home for about a week and a half. She's an Army wife.

They left Darwin just before the monsoons started before Christmas and drove down to their new farm in Tassie and spent Christmas there. They left Tassie just before the awful weather there and drove back to Cungulla, and managed to miss all the major road closures and the Brisbane flooding by days and I remember her saying on Facebook only last week that they particularly lucky. I think the luck has just about caught up with them...

They said on the news the cyclone is bigger than Tasmania, over 500km wide, and the eye of the cyclone is over 100km wide.

My wifes brother and Aunty both live in Cairns. The brother-in-law, his partner and three kids are off to an evac centre and the Aunty lives in the foothills on the way up to Kuranda so the tides wont be their problem but the winds will.

The Grandmother-in-law in Cape Tribulation is the one most at danger and I have not had an update as to what the old battle axe is going to do.

I'm a fair way inland in NW Qld but the rain hasn't stopped here for the last few hours.

Obviously not from Yasi, but an eerie sign of what's to come.

Where I am is not expected to be too bad, but they reckon it will still reach.

Got plenty of friends and family who look they'll be in some strife.
