So we need someone good tactically to run the 20/20 side and someone (or a team of someones) to help with long term development in first class cricket.
You've been watching Punter captain the Test side for too long. While I reckon the teeball would be tougher for captains, if your first plan fails you don't exactly have much time to recover. I respectfully disagree here.

Having watched the recent test series and seen the numbers of coaches (& hangers on) that sit and do the analysis, I now think the problem with SA cricket is that we don't have enough people sitting around taking stats, analysing the next soft dismissal, why he bowled the long hop, how will I place the cones in a straight line for the warm ups, misdiagnosing the injury (ala Taity). I say we need to fill the viewing area with coaches and let the players sit in the grandstand with the public.
Berry over the line for the following reasons
- after first 20/20, has actually got it right.
- not from SA.
- good mate of Cox.
- actually looks like he makes people accountable.
See my post some time ago and I support what I said then.
Great Thread Mal and so far common sense has been talked so keep it up lads
BF has summed it up nicely.
most importantly for me he:
- comes from another state (reasonably successful state)
- makes players accountable
- will make changes when required
Talking to a few state players recently, we were talking about the coaching situation etc and they couldnt speak highly enough of him. This included a few that werent even in the 20/20 team. They said if you didnt do the right thing on the field, when you came off he would hold the door open for you then follow you into the rooms and let you know in no uncertain terms that you "
Stuffed up". Your focus the next week at training was to not make the same mistake! Accountablility is the biggest thing missing from our side. They are talented enough and hopefully accountablility in their performance will bring consistancy.
