All that bleating that they couldn't do it without the other clubs helping and they went and did that on their own.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

7k members from what I understand. Either that's normal in which case they are sustainable members of the comp or it's not normal so their profit/loss statements are anomalous. Either way, that comment is dumb. But I guess since nothing in the SANFL happens without your input 5k of those you approved Sturt to sign up for.

Wha?

The point I'm trying to make is that they thought they couldn't do it alone.. they called for the Magpie faithful to help them in their hour of need and they not only survived but made a massive profit. That's all that was asked in the first place, rather than being propped up by the league.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Yes , you have to look at the whole picture as to how the profit was made not just the profit .

For sure, there'd have to be some kind of accounting factor in there to end up with that result. I don't think anyone is stupid enough to think that suddenly they had $244k + what ever else they were in debt by come in in small denomination bills through the club cash register. The point is, they definitely are a hell of a lot better off after calling on the faithful to come save them.

The point I'm trying to make is that if they'd done this two years ago and had 7000 members back then, would there have been a need to blame the rest of the SANFL for their predicament?

The fact is that they did and unfortunately in these situations people never react until the last minute.

And even when they did the PAMFC were still unable to post a profit without selling off a significant asset.

This clearly shows that the PAMFC situation was untenable in the post Power era (regardless of who is to blame for that scenario) and that something different had to be done.

Annual Reports

Postby Mark_Beswick » Sat Jan 29, 2011 2:42 pm

South, Norwood, Eagles, Glenelg (West from Monday), Port Magpies have their annual reports out.

Have Sturt, North, Centrals posted their yet?

Checking through the ones I have collected, I noted that Glenelg missed a player on their league list

"Joshua Trembath 1 game 2010"

Any other errors in annual reports anyone else picked up?

North have a later AGM in Feb these days but usually make it availagble at least 14 days before the AGM.
I miss the old days when it was all done and dusted in December.

Thanks to the posters above - I'll drive to doggy land and pick one up next week.

Re Glenelg - I haven't emailed them yet - I got a p/copy from a member in victoria asking me to check their stats. When I pick up their annual report on wednesday I'll let the admin know so they can ammend their master copy.

So Sturts and Norths still to come

Thanks all!

North usually produce two reports ... one a yearbook ... the other a financial report.

Sturt can be tricky to get, they tend to keep it simple and low print run.

Re finances as a whole, currently a SANFL club normally has three major sources of income.

1) Internal to Football - Membership, Fundraising, Home Match Tickets, Gate, Canteen etc

2) External to Football - SANFL Dividend ... from SANFL profits which are mainly dervied from AAMI Stadium revenue ie car parking, bar & canteen, corporate boxes, functions etc

3) External to Football - Social Club income ie restaurant and pokies

Factor 1 is probably growing accross most clubs with general membership and crowd increases. Offset by increasing football department costs.

Factor 2 - The level of SANFL Dividend guaranteed for 3 years back in 2009 could be reduced in the future if the league still has to give extra "grants" to Port and if the AAMI to Adelaide Oval move starts to bite. Or if the move leads to sell outs and Power profit maybe the league will have more to distribute. Uncertain.

Factor 3 - Those that do this well have had a major financial advantage over those who have not. Dark clouds ahead re this revenue stream as the Gillard / Andrew Wilke accord from the Federal Election re Pokie Reform takes hold.

So basically two of the cash cows that have sustained SANFL footy for the past decade face probable reductions in upcoming years. Hope clubs are planning for this now.
