The World Cup....

First Class Cricket Talk (International and State)

I've got a feeling Haddin will do pretty well and am glad he has been picked. I wonder if Gilchrist could slot into the team at number 7 with Hayden and Haddin opening. I don't really see Hogg in the top 5 bowlers so would consider going with 4 quicks and then 10 overs from Clarke/Hussey/Hodge. I have question marks over the value of Watson and Hogg.

AH, Haddin would have always gone as Buchanan likes the idea of having a specialist reserve keeper and could possibly keep his spot as a batsman depending on how he performs and the performances of a certain S.Watson if he opens the batting again.

You may be right. Did they have a reserve keeper in the last World Cup? I didn't think they did, but I will stand corrected if that wasn't the case.

Jimmy Maher got the gig, not a regular state keeper I agree but he did get time behind the Stumps during the Australian summer that year when Gilly was rested

Adam Gilchrist stuffed that up. I doubt Haddin would have been selected if Gilchrist was available for the first 3 weeks. I also think White will probably be Symonds' replacement.

Having said that, a few weeks ago on this forum some people tried to tell me White had cemented his place in the team, but I was attacked for suggesting he was teetering on the edge of selection. The only way White will become a regular player in this team is to bat in the top 3 or 4 for Victoria and make heaps of runs .... oh .... and throw that rubbish he tries to bowl in the bin.

I've got time for White potentially as a specialist batsman, it's time he started to become one.

If you are referring to me I will explain to you what ive said about White
in the past 2 months and ......
If your not referring to me play on.

PS WHITE HAS BEEN BATTING 4 FOR VICTORIA AND MADE HEEPS OF RUNS :butthead:

Ah yes .. enter Mal and his sledgehammer wit. Mal, the champion of the very average allroundcer .. Watson, White, Hopes ... the list goes on. White has only just started batting 4 in the one dayers (big deal), he's still down in the middle order in Pura Cup because the silly bugger thinks he can bowl.

Take heart Mal, there were others just as silly suggesting White was a monty for the World Cup.

AH we are talking about o/d cricket not pura cup about WHITE

My boys which I have bravely predicted to go to the WI in
Hopes/White/Watson/Haddin has a 50% strike rate.

WHITE
I predicted he would go to the WI and am wrong.
I said during the EG/AU/NZ series that he should be given
at least 10 games to prove himself.
Now my assessment is he failed when the pressure was on in 3 games.
His bowling was mediocre.
Batting 7 is not a place where a batsman can excel and because he wont
be a middle order batsman soon there is no point picking him as he is a average bowler.

Michael Clark may miss the NZ tour with a hip problem
Phil Jaques will be a replacement

time difference couldnt be worse.

however its the 1st time they have got the format right since 1992 where all 9 played each other.

this time it will be all 8 decent sides playing each other providing no minnows get through the round robin stage. What a farce in 03 when kenya made the semis
