Everyone seems to think having the SANFL curtain raiser will significantly increase the AFL crowd, Im not convinced. The Norwood game might but Id suspect that would have more to do with being the season opener and Primus's first game in charge. The Sturt game will be the real test, and having scheduled it at 11.30am in June I just cant see it happening.

However I asked a fairly concise question above about whether every dollar of CDFC's revenue from its gaming venues is reported in the financials to its members.

Eagerly awaiting a reply.

Anyone who's got a copy of the freakily self absorbed letter they asked members to pass onto MPs is welcome to post it here too.

Yes every dollar is reported in the financials.

I cant argue with your opinion on the letter Topsy. I threw my copy out so I cant post it sorry.

BTW our profit was inclusive of the club hosting an NAB cup challenge game last year which was a nice earner for the club. I dont know the exqact figure made . But it is obviously revenue that cant be relied on this year.

It might not Dutchy but it is worth a shot. As mentioned above they really arent losing much by giving it a go.

It is not just about the crowds at that one game either it is about the potential to get some people along who may not have come otherwise for the opportunity to convert them into repeat business (especially Port fans).

p.s. Do Norwood fans still have a soft spot for Primus? Would they want to see his first game? Are they more likely to support Port (evcen casually because of his presence)? Genuine questions for Norwood fans I have no idea.

UK fan,

I have read all the annual reports for the SANFL, PAFC, AFC and NAFC and asked questions on here about the CDFC ones. What have you done? You have spent a month carrying on about an alternate SANFL universe that will never exist and made a mountain out of a mole-hill about a cancelled premiership dinner. When asked to back up anything you have said all you can produce is quotes from Kris Grant's CEO report. In fairness to Kris, what he has said and what you are banging on about on here are chalk and cheese. One is a swipe at the SANFL for short term cost cutting. The other is wild speculation and crazed, alarmist assumptions about an impending armageddon without any facts to back it up. You claim you are an expert because you discussed it all with Kris yet other posters are forced to help you out and spell out some simple truths and explain it all to you.

Go back to your conspiracy theories and start up a newsletter or something.

Yes Port Adelaide becoming financially unviable is armageddon and will never happen due to they are an inevitable AFl club that will provide us with endless amounts of revenue.

I wish I had your faith in their future.

Im not questioning the revenue the crows make. No-one has ever discussed their financially stability or had to merge to ensure their viability. More Port Adelaide and its constant leaking of millions of dollars every year which is having a huge spiral effect onto the SANFL comp/clubs.

BTW Kris Grant mentioned many challenges facing the CDFC and the SANFL in his CEO report not just what was quoted on safooty. I only quoted the relevant one to provide a reference for Gravel.

For the record I have never once discussed these issues with Kris Grant and never stated that I have.

I have to acknowledge your overall decent post. You surprised me Royal City I was expecting something different.

Properly managed, the PAFC should be a lucrative luable asset of both the SANFL and the AFL. The AFL spins huge amounts of money even if some individual clubs struggle financially from time to time. The Lions have lost even more money than Port in recent years if reports I have read are right. But all 17 clubs build up to a very profitable business overall. They need 2 AFL teams in SA and they need a strong rivalry between those two teams. The AFL and the SANFL will make Port Power work one way or the other.

Until we see the outcome of OnePort and the AO move (if it happens) we are speculating on how it might look in 5 years time. So, in fairness, I can't categorically say your opinion is wrong and neither can you say mine is. We'll have to wait and see won't we?

Thats the bit that scares me Hondo. We will back in this AFl club and its "revenue" no matter what.

The AFL clubs presence and sucess in this state has already changed its category from "inevitable". To "lets wait and see".

And while i have my doubts ONE PORt will change nothing IMHO. Ill concede I could be wrong .

All Im asking if what do we do then when armageddan is upon us and it doesnt work ???? Im afraid we will just get told a bunch of revenue figures and keep championing millions of dollars to the club ($6.5mill in the last 2 seasons).

Whilst continuing to ignore/justify the real costs of these "handouts". The continued spiralling affect down to the sanfl comp/clubs/ ie grass roots football in this state.

As I understand it Port Adelaide generates revenue for football in SA overall. Their books show big operating losses but the SANFL makes a good amount from them through their books.

Having said that, it seems obvious we could all be doing better from the whole situation. Port should be able to bring in a profit, the new ground should increase turnover and the SANFL will be a stronger competition with the Magpies in it which will help both AFL clubs and the SANFL overall.

This "one port" idea can be managed properly without giving either Port an advantage that everyone else gets as well, but needs all SANFL clubs, the SANFL and the AFL to remain vigilant and ready to change rules, ideals and agendas to keep the balance right. The move to Adelaide Oval might help a lot or a little, but it certainly won't hurt anyone.
