Just been on the adelaidenow website and have been reading some comments on the Brisbane floods. Some people saying this is the governments fault and they have had 34 years to fix flooding in this city. Little do people know that dont live in this state/city that Wivenhoe Dam was built after the 1974 floods and if wivenhoe was not there then Brisbane would be not existant today. I dont normally stand up for governments at all but its not their fault. When you have a combination of water being released upstream and a king high tide coming in from the sea the water needs to go some where. Brisbane lies in the middle of this hence the reason there is panic at the moment. The peak is due this afternoon at 3pm and also tomorrow at 3pm when the high tide is in.

the pacific motorway through springwood is normally gridlock at this time of morning but i could count the cars on one hand nearly going into the city. Alot of people told to stay home today. ALso its just starting to rain here again

Here is an EasiMaps image of our house (Red Hot Chilli Pepper) in relation to where the 1974 flood waters got to (Blue Zone).



The Black line on the map indicates 1km. Even though the peak is higher this time around Bundamba Creek (right on the map or to the East) has to go uphill to get to us. The Bremer River (to the North and West of us) has to go over the top of this steep hill to get to us. If we go under the whole town is screwed but even though the above looks iffy. We should be right.

Yeah read plenty of those yesterday .. Probably belongs in the "Things That Give You The Shits" thread, but I can never understand why when there is a matter of the utmost seriousness, some people try to use it for political point scoring.

FFS there are people dying, surely the focus should be on what can be done to help ... Once the danger has passed there will be plenty of time for reviews, theories and strategies etc, but let's just deal with the current issue first.

Just had a text from a mate in one of the coles supermarkets where he works and he said they are desperatly asking other coles store for stock as they are out. Everyone is panic buying food. And he said a few other coles stores are doing the same. Not sure about woolworths but you would think its the same.

He said they are out of milk/bread/canned fish/spag and beans/canned veggies. Only thing left is the forzen foods basically

Yeeronga, Rocklea, Salisbury and Marooka West of the train line are totally screwed. Add Yeerongpilly to the list at about 4pm

For those of you who know Ipswich the peak of the Bremer River is expected to reach 22m today, it was 19m in 1974. The water is at present over Brisbane Street near Coles and the East Street almost all the way up to the Centrelink (opposite Council headquarters) is underwater.

Mrs REB has been an absolute champion working at the evac centre in the Ippy showground and my boys aren't all that impressed with my cooking but they could get another serving of crap a la REB tonight.

Ipswich is cut off to the East and West and the Trumpy Bridge is impassable and it could go under today. Unbelievable.
