[quote="scaffidi can't drive"]Dogs and Trots are completly different - and you're talking about dogs having 2-3 starts a week every week for 6 months...

As for the Trots - look at a horse called Amazing Albert - 9 starts in January and the last of them was a 2nd in a M0 at Moonee Valley - so it can be done and the horses have to be 100% fit - if they are not the vets would pick it up during their warm up and scratch them before they run - so really I think they are 100% fit - but maybe a little flat from trying to back up day in day out, they are just like Humans and get tired also.[/quote

they may be different and they get treated differently.

The information that we have obtained through trainers is that dogs take 5 days to fully recover from a race.

How long does it take a horse to fully recover?

off course mt, 'the little brown jug' they have heats in the afternoon & the finals in the evening admittedly they race over a mile but they're still backing up & the yanks dont have a problem with it only my poor disillusioned friend mal does i just think mal should not bet if he is not happy with what goes on he should save it for other endeavours

The older horses with sore spots make take longer but your sound horses (a majority of them are sound) can back up day after day after day - will they get tired and run flat - yes after a while, but they can run all the time.

Personally - i'm happier with a 7 - 10 day break, but the horses can and do back up quicker.

thanks BAYMAN, i knew the GURU of HARNESS RACING would know, i had it on the tip of my tongue..........................................................

now I have a question, you mentioned that they only race over a mile, wouldnt a mile race be more physically draining then a longer distance trip????????

this is one debate that will just keep on going on till the end of time..........well until either BAYMAN or MAL leave us from this world as we know it!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess everyone has there opinion on what trainers should be doing with there horses, but I believe it is upto the individual punter to decide whether the horse is worth punting on or not.

VETS deem a horse fit enough to run + to oversee that it is about 100% uninjured.
VETS can not tell if the horse is feeling the affects of backing up.

Your last comment sums up what Ive been trying to say
" but maybe a little flat from trying to back up day in day out."

100% FIT perhaps
I should have worded what Ive said as I did in the past like this

IS THE HORSE AT 100% PEAK CAPACITY AFTER BACKING UP[thats a question I asked before]

I should have used capacity not fitness

Agreed- Mal, you punt how you want, Bayman do the same.

A thought- when I was young, I could/would play 3 games of footy a weekend.
Now that I'm older, I struggle to play 1...

thats your belief fine but dont throw your religon down my throat i believe they are fit & if your not happy why do you bet on football & other sports when the athletes ARE CARRYING INJURIES ? as well :? :? :? :? :? :? end of subject i will not respond any further as this is going around in circles
, i tell you the vets would not let them race even if the trainers did as the paramount thing in all this is welfare & safety of both horse & driver final & i will not be baited by you mr mal hussein

& you say impossible prove otherwise ?

All horses can not be 100% fit when in a race.
They can be between 1 to 100% fit.

Stop embarrasing yourself please.
If you think that every horse that goes around is 100% fit you are WRONG.

You have already contadicted yourself by saying they race with viruses which
are not detected until the race is over, thus not 100% fit.

And one more thing vets and doctors make mistakes.

fine i told you i not replying anymore but then why do you bet around australia when you'd have no idea how fit or otherwise an aniMAL is ? at least with me i stick to adel & go & look at the aniMAL myself & make a judgement from what i see, now if i'm an embarrassment & others agree i am i'll stop posting my thoughts (which i get asked) & tips (knowledge) etc & just go back to the footy rooms
