Graham - Hotspot seems reasonably reliable.
I must admit I didn't see the vision where a noise may of been heard.
I didn't however see any deviation to the ball past the bat.

If that means we get 99.9% of decision right and bell was the 001 that we got wrong, so be it.
Take it out of the players hands.

How on earth can we have them here and not there is another issue

India have $$$$$$ and don't like it. If they don't like it the ICC sees $$$$$$ and makes sure India can't have it. It's either good or it's bad, they had a trial, decided it was better for the game so all tests should have it. If they decided it was bad, then nobody should have it. Imagine if in India they didn't have an LBW rule but everywhere else did?

That's certainly not the case. Nobody thinks hotspot is perfect. If it show's something, then we know there was contact. If it shows nothing, it might not mean there was no contact, just it wasn't enough to become visible. Certainly, the replays proved inconclusive and as the third umpire told that to the central umpire the original decision should have stood. We aren't using these referrals to invent doubt, but to see if the umpire was clearly wrong. In this case the umpire may have been correct, but as the third umpire said "I can't tell, it's your decision" and the central umpuire used that doubt to give not out. TOTALLY incorrect use of the system.

Had the decision been given not out, and the Aussies referred it the original decision should have stood in that case as well.

If the evidence was inconclusive and the 3rd umpire said to the central umpires it was his call, shouldn't the original decision of OUT stand ?

And I said hotspot seems reasonably reliable, not perfect. ;)

Do we know for sure that was the communication between the umpires though ?

However when the first Indian wicket fell the umpire gave him out (caught behind/slip, can't remember) and referred the decision up stairs to check on the noball, the ball was found to be legal so the batsman was given out again ...so there is some sort of referal system happening over in South Africa...

As long as I can remember the batsman has always got the benefit of the doubt. There was doubt after the review. Case closed
