Not sure if mentioned earlier in the thread, but Taylor Whitford from South Adelaide has decided to return home to Tasmania, have added to the INS and OUTS list.

I concur with a previous poster that it's a shame to see the big fella gone .. Used to love getting stuck into him from the crowd, but he's been a fantastic player who not only had plenty of ability, he also had plenty of character.

Best of luck to the bloke in whatever he pursues.

Agree CP...

Was lucky enough to chat with Chambo over a quick breakfast one morning in Perth for the State game a couple of years ago, nice bloke to have a bit of a yarn with, albeit a brief one.

Always respected him as a player and it's a real shame he has gone out this way, but hopefully something can be organised with the club to give him the fitting farewell he deserves.

Fairly lame announcement by the club ... in any case, well done on a great career.

Does anyone get the feeling that we might not have seen the last of Chambers in the SANFL? Given the lack of talk and the minimalist announcement I get the feeling he isn't happy about finishing just yet. Any sides out there could use a FF for a couple of years? Most sides are lacking somewhat in a key forward. The best fit would actually be Centrals IMHO. Have a history of being flexible with training/preseason especially for older blokes and just lost their FF. Plus they would be looking at a premiership tilt, so a 2 year player could be useful. But North just lost White, Magpies don't have many key forwards, Norwood could use a key forward upgrade IMHO, West in a similar position. Eagles could think about playing him at FF to allow Grocke to play further out from goals. Only side I would say wouldn't be interested would be South, given they just moved on a good full forward.

He would be handy at any club just can't see his playing SANFL for anyone but Sturt - I think his loyalty and what he achieved at Unley would be enough to keep him from playing against them. What would he achieve by changing clubs now plus the club recruiting him would have to consider what Sturt wouldn't and that was to allow him a much limited pre-season prep and according to Sturt that was one reason his form and goal scoring dipped? I think it was to do with Sturt's overall poor season and lack of good delivery for the most part to him rather than his fitness as such?
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Nick McKenna would be rapt that he was rated as a good full forward. But he has returned to Tassie for his own reasons.

I guess Tim Weatherald is an example of someone you wouldn't have expected to play for anyone but Sturt, but did leave and still kept the respect of his old club and won plenty of admirers at his new club and around the SANFL for the way he finished his career.

Chambers, to me, was a bit like the Gowans in that I use to dislike him as an opposition player, but through consistent performance and durability earnt respect and admiration and will go down as a great of the SANFL.

Well done Brant Chambers. A sad day though for the Sturt FC.

We will update Members further, later in January as both CEO Matt Benson and Football Operations Manager Duane Massey are on annual leave and not avaialble for comment.

At least they put something up there, would look pretty ordinary having it in the mainstream media with nothing official from the club at all. Not sure what you'd expect with the blokes in charge not being available.

The club is planning a decent send off for Chambers, assuming he wants to be in the spotlight again.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

If he wanted to play SANFL he wouldn't have pulled the pin on Sturt. It's not 100% footy related.

I'd be very very surprised if he lines up for any club other than a country town based one based on the reasons given for his departure.

Was lucky enough to speak with Ron and he believes that McLeod is going to be a gun! Pity we didn't get McMahon aswell he would have been a great addition to a midfield group that is going to be extremely competitive in 2011. The only thing that worries me though is the potential for a lot of good players going home to Victoria like we did the last time we made the finals. I believe that we'll make the finals this year though after speaking with Ron today.

Yes, we all read that article too. So if another club was happy to let him have an abbreviated preseason and give him credit for his professionalism to turn up and perform he could well be interested. Obviously since he didn't pull the pin earlier he isn't quite sure he's done, and also since he hadn't spoken to Sturt for some time, and also apparently rushed the decision into the media before Sturt were ready he isn't quite so close and loyal like some people might have us believe. Country is no doubt the favourite for his next destination, but anyone ruling him out of pulling on a difference league guernsey is fooling themselves akin to when Weatherald (who apparently would never line up against his "beloved" double blues) decided he was going to play on rather than be retired before he was ready.

Not sure whether we can judge how much a "team player" he was from the outside, Centurian. For all we know he was asked to take the shot unless he was 100% sure the next option was better and always stay around the goals. Fair to say we were told Boyd wasn't a team player, but he played by the team rules and became a vital cog. If Chambers was similarly happy to perform a role in the team as asked by the coaching staff then he'd potentially be a good pickup.

Southee and klaan i like your confidence in south making the finals but your setting yourself for a huge letdown. i reckon winning six to eight games is a more realstic aim
