Interesting wagon wheel graphic on TV yesterday showing where Cook has scored his 700+ runs, it showed it a very even spread apart from the straight (mid on/mid off) drive which less than 40 runs had been scored. Surely then you just bowl full and straight to this bloke?

As for Paine, maybe let him play a couple of tests to see if he is up to the level before letting him toss the coin!

Exactly! This is how Mcgrath knocked him over every single time...He's vulnerable early with a ball full & straight.

With regards to the bowling full and straight...

I think then if this was the case and the Aussies did bowl straighter and fuller more often then Cook would have scored more down the ground. They reason he hasn't this tour is because he hasn't had to. Leave the one or two decent balls an over alone and then wait for the other 3 or 4 half tracker/wide cr*p and score off them...

Lack of sustained pressure from the bowlers bowling good lines has allowed him to pick his spots...why would he try and score driving when he doesn't need to, just sit and wait and as regular as clockwork the easy pickings will appear.

The lad has been in rare form (thank you South Australia) this tour...

He is taking balls off off stump and turns it to leg
He rarely drives full balls straight, he deflects and pulls to leg, or drives to a mid wicketish area
I would bowl further outside off stump, deprive him of his easy no risk on side scoring opportunities
Then more or less stack the offside and block off his off side scoring avenues

He is taking balls off off stump and turns it to leg
He rarely drives full balls straight, he deflects and pulls to leg, or drives to a mid wicketish area
I would bowl further outside off stump, deprive him of his easy no risk on side scoring opportunities
Then more or less stack the offside and block off his off side scoring avenues

From what Ive seen they have bowled too much middle/leg stump which allows his off the pad flick thru mid wicket (esp to right bowlers), it has to be more off stump and CONSISTENT to dry up the runs and then he will make a mistake. Also helps if we swing the ball

DUTCHY we have both spotted it

Yep middle and leg line to this guy is like letting him bet in a dog race with 100 metres to go
Even on off stump he manages to score legside
I say about 6-18 inches outside off stump on a consistent basis

This is the worst I've ever seen an Australian outfit perform in my lifetime (I was around in the early 80's, but too young to recall it).

Fair similarity between the current Pommy performance, and ours back in the Golden years.

- Bowlers bowling to a plan, with patience and constricting the batsmen
- Batting deep - Often the Aussies would look in strife (by their standards) at 5/200 odd and the Opposition would be buoyant, only to have S Waugh, Gilchrist or Healy partner up with the tail and double (or more) the score.
- Multiple partnerships of 100 or more.

And as it was our opportunity back in the day to bask in our moment of glory, so too now the Poms have earned that right.

This is the worst I've ever seen an Australian outfit perform in my lifetime (I was around in the early 80's, but too young to recall it).

LOL The Aussies were pretty bad in the early-mid 80's .. I can recall Kim Hughes gettign a standing ovation just for getting off the mark and the crowds erupting when we managed to bypass the follow-on score.

Im not sure if we've hit those depths yet (although I would suggest there was probably some better opposition around in those days).
