You're missing my point. I think you'll win the flag anyway even if you were the only SANFL team to miss the byes.

I think Centrals are a great club and well enough coached and managed to win the SANFL flag AND this damned national comp on behalf of the SANFL! At the same time they give their players opportunities outside the SANFL comp to do things they likely would never be able to and their fans get double bragging rights. You seriously wouldn't want to claim the best state league club in Australia for 2011?

I want the best SANFL team to get the bragging rights in this 2nd tier comp.

They disagree, fine.

Thanks for the compliment Hondo. The fact is this season the dogs made a paltry profit of a little over $20,000. We can only win premierships if we remain financially viable and entering into a comp where we may be out of pocket (there is no guarantee we will win - we usually play a shocker or two mid season), risk injury, maybe inadevrtantly breach salary cap (I have seen nowhere whether player payments for this comp count for the cap) and possibly upset out major sponsors by playing in a cleanskin guernsey just doesn't stack up. A pity cause I would love to see us play a Vic or WA side.
We used to be good :-(

Central have already done that. The SANFL is the strongest comp outside the AFL. We dont need a poorly organised national knockout comp to prove that.

The SANFL ladder on the NAFC website was not updated past whatever round Glenelg were last on top - end of round 22? He is taking the piss!

Just a hypothetical.
Say through the year North (for example) are already out of finals contention. However they're having a cracker Foxtel/Demetriou cup, needing one or two more wins, to take it out. They have a game against West Adelaide, followed by a game against a WA side also in contention. South need North to beat West for South to make the five. North "drop", "player manage" their top twelve players for the match against West. What would people think?
Just a hypothetical.

Good hypothetical - could well happen but I would be disappointed if we were out of finals contention and South were still in contention!

I can just read the comments by the lower ladder teams fans playing in the Champions league at the end of 2011.
I bet everyone will be saying we could have won the SANFL flag if we had stayed out of the champions league . ;)

in that case if my team was out of finals contention and the only silverware on offer was the national comp then I would accept the player management scenario and also if teams are requiring other teams to win/lose to make the finals, then I dont think they deserve to be there in the first place

Considering the WAFL beat the "strongest comp outside the AFL" last time they played - a comp with a far less Salary Cap than the SANFL I think your arguement fails to stand up. Maybe the WAFL should get onto the same Salary Cap as the SANFL next time they play to even it up even further?

Interesting that no-one has yet commented on North's summary of how they see this comp and the arguments for and against. Also their statements about the AFL and the SANFL Commission.

Well done to North for their statement and more proof that the players love the idea.

Nah, whats more interesting is that North has endorsed Graham Cornes article and used Cornesy's arguements to justify their participation, Punky your thoughts on North Adelaide doing what Graham Cornes thinks is a good idea???
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I think by now we all know the arguments for and against and of what importance they are to each club.
Well, its more proof that the competing clubs players like the idea. Although, I couldn't imagine them coming out and saying we reckon it's a crap idea.

This experience is beyond the financial capacity of most Clubs in this State.

For my club, this fact is very relevant.

Both North Adelaide and Graham Cornes fully support the Foxtel Cup.

Case closed against it being any good then as far as I can see. :D

NAFC statement = I love it! Yeah, cop that! ;) After being against their anti-OnePort position it's great to be proud of my club's position. Fair old swipe at the gang of 5 and their hidden little agendas (alleged).

Oh well, good thing we'll have 5 premiers next season as consolation
