The rest of the side we had wristy werent to shabby either! ciaran just finished off the good work from upfield :)

Yes it was the most well oiled Gaelic machine i have ever seen by the time we got to 2005. It wasnt just Cairan point kicking it was the team kicking zone that we had set where we all all new who would take the frees from each part of the field. From memory you had the honours 25-45 on the far left quarter from memory with the cherry bomb taking the 13-25,s on the left quarter. Its pretty hard to compare teams to that team when we broke scoring records in 2 of our 5 games. Fond memories indeed. Signs were good when we beat the seniors in a trial.

surely the state team can look at tommy "not in my house" as goal keeper next year. also will be able double as the team mascot
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

In my mere 2 years of association with the State team we’ve had a pretty miserly defense but its been SA’s ability to kick points from open play under pressure that has killed us. The addition of Irish Danny, definitely Lovechild McSorely, and id include Onkas Adrian Maccolino as well as genuine class point kickers from distance would certainly make SA dangerous up forward, especially when working with Western’s James Gallagher, and having Taints Andy Bachmann running round scaring the $hit out of defenders by running at 100+ miles an hour, and Na Fianna’s St Nick Jolly at full forward as a target! And lets not forget Matt “Chazz Brownlow” Whitford at centre half forward…

Getting as many ex/current SANFL affiliated players (eg Pedler and Read) to get the balls in the hands of the above mentioned forwards is always helpful too! The Taints have wheeled out Port Maggies onballer Casey Carr for a few games this year and he has been electric, if he can commit in 2011 then he will improve out of sight.

Bit harsh on Jordy Pegoraro there. Hardly missed a setshot within 40m at this years championship.

IMHO the biggest obstacle facing the SA team is that when the championships roll around we havent had a serious game in 6 months whilst the other states have just completed their season.

In an ideal world we would start with a training squad of 30 that would enable a number of 15 v 15 scratch matches leading up to the tournament. However with almost the entire squad having footy committments (plus work, study, families etc) it seems very difficult to get those sort of numbers consistently.

Turn it up $wooper you doeckehead - i wasnt talking about spot kicks or Jordan at all?! Jordan's setshots were spot on, its SA's inplay point kicking (ie NOT free kick set shots) i was talking about not being up to scratch. If not for Whitto securing the Chazz Brownlow Medal, Jordan probably would have won our best n fairest IMHO! And i didnt mention him in my list as id play him as a midfielder rather than a forward.

Thought our point kicking (set shots and open play) was actually pretty good in NZ and certainly dont believe any of our 3 losses could have been attributed to wasted chances in front of the giant H.

Took us 2 games to adapt to the style, conditions and pressure which as i said i believe is due to playing out of season. Then by the time the semi final rolled around we were down to 14 fit players (plus Chris Carey in bubblewrap). And against the eventual champions it was always going to be an uphill battle.

Over the week thought our defence was rock solid, we took our chances up forward and the team spirit was fantastic. however I believe our key deficiencies (particulary in the losses) were that we had probably only about 30% of possession, struggled to hold the ball after kickouts and as i said took some time to adapt to the Irish style of gaelic (particularly the pressure).

Of course any of the aforementioned names would have made a big difference (and with a full squad i think this was a great opportunity to end the drought) but I think it can be pretty easy to just say "we lost due to wasting shots in front of goal" when in reality there are probably more significant areas that we could and can fix with good numbers at training.

Wow, an intelligent conversation on this forum!! Thanks for staying out of it Milko.Other areas SA Men need to improve on too...
Pressure defence on opposition forwards without giving frees away. You are always going to give frees away but I think too many are just plain dumb or obvious. Even 5 less fouls a game would make a difference.
Turnovers, as mentioned previously I think this is a match practise thing and having the right brains in the middle.

The dream of having the best possible team on the park has been around for a while. Even in Adelaide in 2008 we couldn't manage it.

Ladies and gents the State League ladders and results have finally been updated! Check the website out at www.gaelicfootballsa.com.au, the mens ladder is looking very tight at the top!

Also a reminder to all that read this that there will be NO GAELIC7s GAMES on Wednesday 22 December 2010, as we are breaking for Christmas a week earlier than originally planned. The updated Gaelic7s Schedule is also on the website!

All fixed now Lutz, thanks for your keen eye.

With all the furore involving "nude Saints photos" in the press, i half expected to see some drunken nude shots of Saint Brendans midfielder Jarrod Pomeroy doing the rounds... however he nudes up so frequently i suppose the shots wouldnt be worth much!

Onkas coach Matt WHIPPEDford has already started the psychological mind games ahead of tonights top of the table Onkas vs St Brendans clash by claiming Onkas may not have a full team! Certainly sounds like some foxing from the male half of Facebooks most popular romance...

Looking forward to running out about 5 x Chrissy lunches and 2 weeks worth of beer tonight!

Yes I too may have witnessed young love on the lush green fields of old panther park the other week. May have even heard over the Xmas New year period when having a small beverage at the Irish Club that the Irish Newspaper may want to do an article on that young man in question that has come so far. The big question though is will the budding relationship take the wind out of the supercoachs sails and cost the Onkas boys. Before Xmas the lads lost a little momentum...

To this weeks games and its the Onkas boys up against a rejuventated Saints setup. Will the Xmas break affect the Saints who have been notorious slow starters. Even with the point scoring seven a side magician Matt Bevan being released by coach Millsy Onkas boys to get up by 6-10.

Flinders to take on Irish and will be interesting to see who has the numbers. Historically both teams struggle numbers wise around the break. Would still expect the class of the Flinders boys to get them over the line no matter the numbers and continue their push for a finals position. Flinders by 6-10.

NaFianna to take on account for the Port boys. Hopefully the Nafianna boys can get a few more faces out to support the lone ranger from the carnival day in milko. Port boys had agood win before Xmas and their running game will only get better the further into preseason they go and a sunday afternoon will suit them nicely. Still though expect NaFianna to get over the line if they are serious about the top 4 and get up by 6-10.

Final game is Mitcham v the goats. The goats were the inform side before Xmas winning their last couple and taking out the carnival. The boys are always well prepared with the magic white board making an appearance almost every weekend. Not sure if they would lose their mojo if the family favourite went missing. On the other hand Mictham boys had a downer against the Port lads but in saying that the Angrys have been finding form in the 7s with CJ Carey back to his best with everyones favourite little Lepper Tommy G. Western Ireland by 10-15 points
